Doesn’t really seem dumb to me. Her shock value as a debut on a WWE PLE is worth way more than anything she could do in AEW. You want All In to be the story of the weekend, not some dumbass promo WWE made her do. Holding on to her for a few weeks to prevent that is a smart business move regardless if you don’t agree with it morally.

From a labor perspective, holding an employee hostage that is both not wanted in that company and doesn’t want to be in that company when there is the option of releasing them, is pretty atrocious imo.

 

Whole situation is pretty lame honestly, but yeah I don't see Britt debuting anywhere overshadowing All In personally. Guess we will see what happens.

Yeah, my gut reaction was 'well that's just how this industry works', but then read what some of yall thought, especially this post, and AEW is probably thinking 'well this is how WWE would handle it' to justify it.

Meanwhile doing the morally RIGHT thing (unconscionable in corporate America) would be a smart move in the bigger picture from an optics standpoint. Grant her the release and save the bridge from being blown up between both parties and show you aren't as shitty as WWE.


Reality says they are as shitty as WWE, just haven't been around nearly as long.

Im actually ultimately fine with WWE's NXT model of releases. Its basically 30 day advance notice of of termination that works as a "we can close out a story" or "you cant debut the next night on a competitor"; but Id also loosen it to not block them from working non-televised indies during those 30 days. And I think either wrestler or company should be able to activate it.

The 90-day main roster model is absurd...people forget you exist in that period of time.

Dont agree that Britt was ever a bad worker (as bad as her final match was). Her problem is her character never evolved once. And in a company that now has probably 8-10 better workers AND all of them are more dynamic characters, theres no use for her. Same thing is true of Thunder Rosa basically (though she's a better worker).

 

I was looking at the card for the first Dynamite, out of everyone that actually wrestled only 2 of them are not there anymore. It's crazy to me. (assuming Brandon Cutler and Ortiz are still employed by the company).
