Josh Alexander's gear is indeed terrible, but my understanding is his ear is all messed up from previous cauliflower ear etc and he's gotta keep it covered so it doesn't fall off/turn into dust

Well. I did think Rick Steiner’s were ear muffs when I was a kid but my dad explained they’re for/to prevent cauliflower ear
