Finish was really clunky.

 

Seemed fine to me. Lyra won with a quick pin after a thumb to the eye (or punch to face). It fit the match they told. Back and forth hard hitting.

A bunch of Sabu/Abyss matches from their 2005 feud. Sabu/Samoa Joe from 2006. Sabu/RVD from 2010. Sabu & RVD/Penta & Fenix from 2019

 

You think there will be a Sabu reference or mention from Heyman tomorrow night?

 

Probably.

I also hope that Tony makes one of the 2300 Arena shows a Sabu Tribute. I know it’s a bit later in the year but no better place.

 

You can't say you grew up in the attitude era and say there's too much fuckery now lol

But I agree that the wwe matches have been painfully formulaic lately. Not the fuckery....but the spam finishers. And the lengths!!! My god every single match type has the same length.

 

I mean the crowd doesn’t even get hot for most wrestling. They love the entrances and then wait for spam finishers or the expected interference. Most of the time they are waiting for the end to react and don’t care about the journey unless it’s something really hot. I’m not shocked by those stats at all.

 

I’d love to see similar stats for around the peak of the Attitude era. I should imagine there won’t be a huge difference. I should think the only thing that would change is match times. With the exception of a Triple H match, it feels like so many matches lasted about 3 minutes before the fuckery starts. At least we get a good 10 minutes before it these days haha

To be fair, then, WWE had, what, 1hr of TV for a while...then at its peak, like 3hrs? Instead of the 6+ hours they have now...with infinitely better workers including actual women that can wrestle.

WWE's always used DQs over true finishes to protect people (though HHH didnt really do that in his NXT run). But having EVERY main event be an interference spam is definitely a joke. Its precisely why Mox's stuff is falling flat in AEW where thats not the norm

 

I do feel like, Bloodline stuff aside, most of the WWE PLE's havent had that much interference until this last build to WM and beyond.

Its like they're back to being afraid to have guys lose so they end up 50/50 booking again

 

It’s weird because when HHH first took over, for a bit he was doing some of the most unconventional stuff and different things to change the product up. It was working and no he truly plays it safe. Don’t get me wrong I think playing it safe isn’t always bad but you still have to show some balls when it comes to your booking

 

They need to pivot and get the title off Cena because woof he’s terrible in the ring now
