• On his Backstage Pass show, Chris Featherstone noted that WWE’s “game plan completely changed” with The Rock’s return last week, and Drew McIntyre is now booked to win the men’s Elimination Chamber match.
• The Wrestling Observer Newsletter says WWE writers “were confused and thrown for a loop” by The Rock’s abrupt return to SmackDown. One person in the company said his soul-taking angle with Cody Rhodes comes across as “diminishing the value of the title” by pushing the idea that “Rhodes isn’t a star at the level of Rock.”
• The Observer also says “there were several people upset internally” in WWE when the main ad for Elimination Chamber that featured several wrestlers was replaced by a new one that only included The Rock.

 

Fuck the Rock man. I’m all for McIntyre getting a big match though

 

I feel like the Rock is doing this to stick it to Trips because of all the years Hunter politicked. Rock knows he can’t tell him no

 

I hope it's an extreme shit show, makes for a better watch

 

Honestly just let Hunter bring out the sledgehammer and take Rock out so we never have to see him again

 

I haven’t been following super closely but caught the last 5-10 minutes of Smackdown and it was quite awkward and strange. All this “soul taking” nonsense is Ministry Undertaker territory, not something I would have expected the Rock to do and is just very dumb.

I wish they could go one year without a legend and just let the people that work the entire year to have a spot on the show. I’m sure they will get a lot of talent on there but I’m so over legends lol

Cody turns heel / beats Cena or Punk at mania with rock’s help / sets up Cody/Roman 3 in reverse roles at mania 42

 

So Rock really did turn into Vince and it's not just a storyline

 

A heel Cody sounds like such a stupid idea, no babyface is even close to the popularity (maybe except Roman).

 

He was a great heel in NJPW early elite days

it can absolutely work - WWE is lacking a big bad heading into Mania

 

Also I bet we get jade and Randy returns tonight and long shot Roman return

 

This is gonna sound like an heated rant but it’s not totally that, just some thoughts and annoyances that pop up with “Cody can’t be heel” talk.

I always dislike the idea/reasoning of someone not being able to turn heel because there isn’t an equal level baby face to put against them. Or because it will hurt merch sales.

Those “reasons” were given for almost two decades with Cena and it didn’t make sense then and doesn’t make sense now with Cody. Especially if Cena is back for his last run, there’s your face and your merch sales. Penta sells a bunch of merch. Rhea sells merch. Punk sells merch. Sami and Roman sell merch. Hell, even heel Dirty Dom sells merch.

You also don’t need an IMMEDIATE baby face that is equal to Cody. Build some dudes up, that’s what’s supposed to happen, but there are tons of faces in the upper card and middle card to work with.

With all that said, I don’t know what the story would be for WHY Cody would turn heel. Cole talked about not having to wrestle as much if he sides with The Rock so I guess that’s something lol but actual reasons don’t seem to exist for why Cody would turn heel unless I missed that part of the story since I can barely read recaps let alone watch this stuff for hours every week.
