It's funny how WWE was imploding partially because AEW was a viable alternative, but now AEW seems to be imploding and partially because WWE is now a viable alternative? Between HHH and Cody, you have to imagine that "We'll leave" is a slightly more realistic threat from the Bucks and Kenny now than it was a year ago

Also isn’t ROH basically AEW now? I don’t know what the difference is except it’s another wrestling show.

 

They don't have any TV right now. Their previous owner was looking for a buyer (because ROH was essentially just cheap content for them to air at 2AM and make money off the infomercials) and Tony bought them (and IIRC they are legally separate entities) but outside of one PPV and having the championship on AEW TV hasn't really done anything

 

The opt-out clause is still a completely insane thing to me and shows how badly WWE wanted them. Out of sheer curiosity I'd love to see what the actual plans presented to them were.

 

Besides the money which the Bucks confirmed was 500k a year guaranteed + merch etc. I don’t think it was ever talked about much. Dave said back then that tentative plans were for Kenny to be in the main event scene immediately (I think this was around the rumble in 2019 or so?)

 

Not that I think it will happen any time soon, but now would be the perfect time to jump. Made a name of themselves in the US that they may not have had before thanks to regular TV time, guaranteed to make a lot of money, will definitely be pushed to the top and booked well because the guy in charge of creative is a fan. It’s win-win for them.

 

At a time when Discovery is cutting programming and costs left and right, I wonder if it’s even a conversation about “hey we don’t need this shit”. Which would be stupid but then again everything they’ve done since merging has also been stupid

 

I doubt it considering the ratings are very good. AEW is constantly at or near the top of cable ratings on Wednesday’sz The only way I could see them even considering cancelling would be if somehow ratings started tanking.
