Super random question to those who have attended shows either in the first few rows or just know more about the business (@Mick):

many matches over the course of any promotion have a lot of blood, and a lot of matches have people bleeding that fight at ringside. Inevitably I have to imagine that blood from time to time gets on the audience. Not on purpose of course, but just from the fast movements and whatnot. Do people in the first few rows have to sign wavers or anything to not sue or make a big deal about this or is it just a “at your own risk” kind of thing and you know what’s possible when you’re in the front rows?

not even thinking of like the safety of the blood (I assume all wrestlers, especially the ones that bleed, are tested to make sure they can’t transfer anything to other wrestlers) but just from the gross perspective of “oh I have John Cena blood in my mouth”.

like I said, super random, but I’ve always wondered.

Hardy stuff is really ugly considering they so recently used it as a storyline. Wow.

    100% at your own risk.

And re, "I assume they're tested..." You shouldn't. It's just accepted as part of the whole thing.

That said someone did sue Abdullah the Butcher for giving him Hep-C due to in-ring blood letting. Wrestler Wins Hepatitis C Lawsuit Against Abdullah The Butcher

I've never had to sign a waiver or anything like that when in the first few rows, but the times that I have been that close, it was either from tickets I was given directly from WWE/talent, or from friends who were also given tickets from WWE. I'm not sure if when purchasing tickets through a place like Ticketmaster if there is some inherent "contract" or terms and conditions that come with your purchase. To be honest, I've never really thought too much about this, since WWE shows are typically so tame from that aspect.

Pretty certain most indies are "at your own risk". Have never gotten blood on me at all but have definitely gotten hit with a lot of glass lol.

Closest I’ve ever been is 3rd row at a live event and 8th row at Mania Orlando. For 3rd row there was no mention of risk by Ticketmaster. But when I was in the 8th row I got to witness former NBA star Kenyon Martin try to fight someone

I was second row at a tiny indie show in Tulsa a few years ago, main event was the top local guy vs Abyss in a hardcore match and my friend next to me got blood on his hoodie. I never once thought about anything being transferred from the blood lol

Brock Lesnar nearly landed on me in the front row and I obviously would have died if that happened but yeah no waivers whatsoever.

Thanks for the responses! I imagine it would be impossible to have people physically sign something for each and every show, that would be nuts.

I assume it’s the same for basketball games where you just take it as part of the experience you may get a giant human launching your way to save a possession. Sadly just seems like with how sue happy everyone is someone would get riled up about it.

I've never sat front row at any of the more "hardcore" promotions, but I've been front row for a dozen or more WWE house shows, and several indie shows over the years. Definitely never felt unsafe, but there have been some close calls, even at WWE shows. Really, it's just the fear of the steel barricade being launched into your knees if a wrestler gets whipped there/thrown there, whatever. I'm short, so it's never happened to me directly, but I've seen people in my general vicinity get hit. None of them ever really seemed too upset about it, though.

The indie shows I've been at, wrestlers have generally been pretty good about calling for people to move if they're going to do a big spot into the crowd.
