Does anyone get confused because the pre-show host sounds vaguely like Renee?

 

Even if someone can try to convince me that Jey dethroning him would represent great long-term storytelling, I think it would now run counter to how they set up the Sami and KO win, and I don't think Jey has any meaningful future as a singles star. So paying off the Bloodline story with him winning feels certain to add less long-term value to the company than giving someone else the rub of beating Roman.

I have absolutely hated the brand split and the two main titles thing since I was a kid. It is one of the reasons I stopped watching in the early 2000's. Them unifying the titles was one of the smartest things they have done in recent memory. If they split them again my interest is gone.

 

I was for the brand split when they had the super bloated rosters. But now the rosters are so small it sucks. If they increase size again I’d be for the split

 

two main titles is dumb because look how massive the main event felt last night. that only happens when you have one champ. also one is always going to be regulated to 1b, so if they're creating a new one its just gonna be the "I couldn't beat roman championship"

I'm not of the camp believes that they can't still create a massive moment with Cody winning the title down the line if that's the plan. There is undoubtedly online outrage, but the reaction in the crowd felt more like a "holy shit, boo this man" rather than, "holy shit, boo this booking decision."

The thing is - this kind of booking used to work. You used to beat the babyface before building him back up to eventually overcome the heel monster. It's only in this era that they haven't really tried it with a genuinely successful pair of acts. They spent more than a decade in the "Cena wins lol" mindset, then wasted another five trying to make babyface Roman Reigns click.

Roman is a much bigger deal than say, Triple H when he just killed babyfaces in the early 2000s. That started to feel like go-away heat. Reigns doesn't have that. He's still the most over act in the company by a considerable margin. Not to mention, every measurable metric is up under his title reign.

It doesn't feel like a wanton booking decision or senseless swerve for the sake of swerving. The Bloodline story, and everything involving Roman Reigns, has been handled with such precision and care for such a long time that I think they've genuinely earned the benefit of the doubt here. There's NO doubt that I could look back on this in six months and say, "okay, what the hell were they thinking?" For now, though, I'm content to see what they've got in mind through Summerslam.

I also think it's a good sign for Cody that people are this riled up and fully invested. It speaks to how hot he is as a character, and how all-in (pun intended) people are on the whole thing right now.

still stunned they went with roman last night. genuinely feels like an all time blunder. if roman was beating guys clean left and right and finally had to cheat to beat Cody, then fine maybe I could be convinced that it was the right move. but like, it was the same stuff he always does!

If there is a tag match tonight to end the show with Roman and Solo paired up, I feel like that would be ending with Solo turning on Roman. Maybe not attacking him, maybe just walking out on him but I still got such an odd impression with Solo and his demeanor to end the match last night. Maybe Solo feels like he isn’t appreciated enough by Roman after saving him AGAIN and doesn’t feel he should be champion.

They don’t have to push him as someone that goes against Roman for the title, he can go off on his own and do whatever, but just not have him in the Bloodline anymore, further adding to the sinking ship.

(but don’t believe anything close to this will happen at all lol)

 

Id think if they did something along these lines it would be on smack down

 

So what is the UFC community saying about this deal? Do their critics now think more than ever that UFC is scripted? How does Dana feel about Vince being his boss? Does it affect people’s confidence on betting on UFC? Will someone hit Joe Rogan with a steel chair? I need to know!

 

Finally home after TJPW, ROH, NXT and 2 WM nights, it was so much fun but I'm tired and back at work. Now I have like 30 pages of posts on here to catch up to.
