watching this now. Veny is fucking awesome.

Veny/Emi vs Mei Suruga/Baliyan Akki on Chocopro 89 was awesome. Great first two matches to get introduced to Veny and Mei.

 

The Japanese side of the AEW Women's Eliminator was a SUPER fun watch.

Veny rules. Itoh continues to rule. And I really loved the finish that Mizunami pulled out.

That said: Watching Aja Kong at 50+ is rough.

 

I think Aja will be better with someone else. Rin seemed a bit lost. Ryo/Aja could be good.

 

We all talked shit about the Full Sail crowd at one point or another, but I think the brand that has been hurt the most by not having fans in attendance is NXT. The production and set up of NXT's show hinges so much on that small but rowdy crowd.

 

Also, Takeover is the crowds. I watched a few incredible matches right around WM time in NXT, and without the crowd...it just didnt really work when they book the false finishes, etc. Thunderdome helps for sure, but, its just not the same.

 

Does NXT still have wrestlers at ringside? I feel that helps AEW when it comes to false finishes and stuff like that

 

They have actual fans or at least families of the wrestlers but they get drowned out by the thunder dome noise

 

I think another reason this past month has been a bit of drag in NXT is all the Dusty cup matches. Kinda drowns out everything else, especially with the womens one too. They probably should have done them separately, give them a month or two in between.

That ending of Takeover should get more people tuning in again I reckon. It's been a while since NXT did a swerve like that.

 

wish they had done a SWERVE instead. Get that guy involved already. Jesus.

 

RIGHT?? Dude doesn't know how to have a bad match. Fingers crossed this heel-ish side brings a bit more success.

 

Don't know how Triple H hasn't pushed Swerve to the top yet

 

Too many people ahead of him. He came in at a time where he would have eventually got a bigger push when guys got called up, but that doesn't happen as much any more, so he's kind of stuck with a load of people in the same boat.

 

There really is a log jam at NXT. Usually people would get moved up and that would clear some space but nobody wants to move up to raw or sd. And then to make it worse people came back to NXT

 

So, perfect time to sign twenty four new talents, right?

 

Meanwhile Lumis and Grimes are still being pushed nicely. Weird how bored I've become with Trevor Lee since he began working in NXT

 

Because the Cameron Grimes gimmick fucking sucks, dude looks like a "Red Dead Redemption 2" character and probably has an odor to him.

And maybe it's simply because we didn't really get to experience AEW full tilt with crowds prior to shutdowns, but the AEW experience with their wrestlers at ringside comes across as way less hokey than when NXT/WWE does it

Call-ups have felt a little less organic in the last year or so, but another thing recently for NXT is how the title picture scene really hasn't felt congruent since Keith Lee became champ. They had a great story going with him, and then he is called up super quickly and drops the belt to Kross, who then doesn't have the chance to establish a meaningful story going forward, which brings us to Finn, who is obviously great but his reign has felt a little start and stop with the injuries after the KOR match and a little disjointed. But I have high hopes with where they may be going after this most recent PPV.

Same goes for the women's division, honestly. The roster is stacked with talent and I have no issues with Io having a super long title run, but it feels like they're almost underselling her dominance in a way? Very different feel to her as champ compared to Asuka and Shayna's long runs. And with how much talent they have, it feels like we're cycling through feuds at too quick of a pace for there to be any storyline development there. NXT really should introduce a secondary women's title of some sort. Unlike the main roster with the tag titles, I'd trust them to treat it with actual meaning. Dakota Kai is doing phenomenal work right now, and it's a shame there's not much for her to do in NXT after losing to Io (and the one thing they've found for her involves the same secondary title that WWE always puts on the backburner)

I really dont see any other way to interpret it with Ric Flair shouting "call me Daddy"

I suspect they'll do some sort of walk back if they catch enough heat for how f'd up it is...

 

I mean... after she announced it he started strutting around yelling “call me daddy” so uh...
