Didnt they used to have matches to determine who got a pick?

Like, make Survivor Series entirely about stockpiling draft picks and hold the draft during the dead period of December. Make the Rumble essentially a reset of major storylines that build to WM.

Rinse and repeat with Money in the Bank in the spring/summer, where the build to it establishes your Summerslam storylines.

 

Yeah but it was still brand picks. I say let the wrestlers pick. It would even fix the stupid brand wars because at least the wrestlers would have picked the brand and theoretically would want to defend it

 

Question:
What steps could/should AEW take to grow/cement themselves further?

Give the women more of a spotlight

 

I might be talking out of my ass here, but I don't see them doing a lot of mainstream media work or online advertising.

A guy like Cody on Good Morning America talking about living up to his dad's legacy, or significant ads across Facebook, Instagram, etc. could help grab former wrestling-fan eyes.

I know they tend to do regionalized media, but national could be a good place for them to build out.

 

As well as they're doing, they're still pretty niche. They definitely need more of a media presence outside of the wrestling community. If they even want that, that is.

They also need some BIG stars. Jericho is fine, but still not that well known outside of wrestling and metal circles. Cody has a bit of mainstream attention from his acting, but not that much. All the guys they've picked up from WWE are all guys who had the rug pulled from them before they could make it big. Ambrose I guess, but even he wasn't pushed to the moon when he was champ in WWE. Although I couldn't tell you who there is that's out there that they could sign, though.

They're still very much in their infancy, though. There's no need to rush anything, they're still very much building something.

 

But who would that be? Who is so known outside the wrestling world except for Hogan, Cena, Batista, Rock, and maybe Undertaker?

 

Well, I think that’s more of a wrestling issue in general at the moment. No truly big regulars in any promotions. Do the general public know who Roman Reigns is? Drew McIntyre? John Moxley? No one is really breaking out. It took Cena and Batista well over 10 years to get a bit of proper mainstream credibility.

 

This just makes me happy.
