Also, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Vince waits until we're a week out before making a decision on Mania.

 

Every September, Vince and WWE parrot out the lines about how WWE was so quick to broadcast after 9/11 when just about everything else was cancelled. There is no way he is personally cancelling WrestleMania unless a government agency of some sort specifically tells them they are not allowed to put on the show in Tampa.

 

Looks like the XFL just suspended their season.

I will say this for WWE, they've always seemed to really think outside the box when they're put in positions where they're forced to move away from their own status quo. I really hope they look at this from that perspective and challenge themselves to look at their own product in a different way

 

another thing to keep in mind as far as the stubbornness to cancel any events: raw and smackdown are two of the longest running 'weekly episodic shows' on cable/television. you think wwe wants to 'suspend' activity due to corona and jeopardize the streaks?

i know that they dont "want" to - but its still fucking stupid. they're not cashing checks off of that super specific superlative. no tv network is gonna be like "but what about that time coronavirus happened and you got scared!" in future rights negotiations. the health of the staff is more important.

 

There really is an easy answer to this for WWE, who can run shows out of the PC and contain a relatively small community (what, maybe 200 people max with refs, ring crew, production, etc) to still put on the "drama" they want. Throw in a laugh track if you want, or just do what soap operas do and run without audience sound.

I think there's value in events that can run in contained forms for public entertainment...WWE is actually uniquely positioned to do that. And they have planned at least 7 hours of entertainment that almost certainly wont happen in early April

 

Fascinated to see what SmackDown looks like, from a purely aesthetic standpoint

 

At this point I just wanna crawl into a cave until I never hear the word Coronavirus again.

Watch us find out the contract for Tampa to host didn't have any clauses for an event like this, so if Tampa pulls out they are on the hook but if WWE pulls out they are on the hook. And so they both play games with people's lives.
