Eddie wrote a piece for the Players Tribune.

 

Its so weird always feeling like Eddie was a schlub on the indies and seeing how great he is now.

 

I knew nothing of Eddie before he popped up on AEW to fight Cody but he's easily one of my favorites and he's got a long career with them ahead of him. Manager/Commentator/coach/etc. I'm so stoked for him.

I didn't mean to imply that he'd have his name changed for change sake, but specifically because they rebrand wrestlers (or their moves) who have what they might perceive as unmarketable names with adult content - e.g. Killer Kross, Punishment Martinez, Finn's "Bloody Sunday" finisher (well played to him switching it to the year associated), etc.

i don't think punishment martinez was too violent/adult, it was just one of the dumbest names in wrestling

 

I had no idea eddie existed before he showed up in aew. Now he is one of my favourites. Such a cool guy.

 

Touche, I don't disagree there. But even if it weren't lame, I still think the violent connotation meant they wouldnt have considered it. They wouldn't have let that be printed on a Mattel box - maybe for good reason. All that to say, for the same reason I don't think he'd be able to showcase Switchblade as prominantly with his persona there.

Eddie was always a guy I’d be like “oh ok” when he came out at OTT, but by the end of the match he’d win me over. But shit, since going to AEW he’s probably one of my favourite guys there. I really really want him to get his big win soon. Teared up a few times reading that piece. Damn.

 

Eddie Kingston is that fucking dude. No pun intended, but owning your mental health, fighting back, that’s some king shit. I love it.

 

God damn, I hope Eddie wins on Saturday
