  1. Nothing shows that WWE (really VKM) will change - they brought back Johnny Ace and the woman’s division is trash

WWE is the one’s who brought on this “war” and they keep losing - they moved NXT to Wednesday (got slaughtered) they brought back Lesner and Cena (barely moving the needle) they extended smack down an extra 30 minutes on Friday and lost in the key demos

everything they’ve done lately have been own goals lol

  2. Roman by all accounts seems like the man backstage and is a great guy but suffers from terrible WWE booking but even then has had great moments during his heel run.

He’d probably be universally loved in any other company outside of WWE lol

this was what I was getting at - WWE being around is good from an employment perspective and by being around makes AEW work harder. Competition is always a good thing. even though this site dislikes 99% of what WWE does, it obviously has fans and if it didn’t exist, AEW would be different, we of course just don’t know to what extent, but it would be hard to imagine it would be better if WWE was gone.

And AEW would definitely have to let people go/ not take on people if WWE shut down and/or release people themselves to make room for the WWE guys and that would be curious to see who got let go. They wouldn’t replace everyone with WWE people, but they’re probably at least what 5-8 men/women and it would be curious to see who they would cut to make room.

so while it would be nice to see WWE (specifically Vince) fail, having competition is best for business (any business).

but that's kinda it. Sure, WWE is losing but is AEW actually winning? Can Rampage survive if most of the time its taped and it can only pull 580k viewers on a live show?

WWE and AEW both doing healthy numbers is good for wrestling. Them both doing middling numbers is bad for wrestling.

  6. 580k viewers at 10PM on Friday seems pretty good

Isn’t Rampage pretty routinely #1 on cable on Friday’s? That’s what I’ve read at least.

    • According to WrestleVotes, the Friday night ratings were “a HOT topic” backstage at Raw last night. Mat Men’s Andrew Zarian confirmed this.
    • No titles are expected to change hands at Crown Jewel, at least according to the latest odds from bookmakers like Bet Online.
    • WrestleVotes says WWE is changing up Karrion Kross’ presentation again. Kross will be “more of a ‘psycho’ yet still ‘calm & cool’.” The helmet stays, but his theme music & entrance will change. And “still no Scarlett.”

I can’t imagine Prichard and Johnny Ace having Scarlett at their disposal and not using her for anything

Why? They clearly don’t care for him, why use her as a manager if he’s going to lose every match?

Thing is, Fox/NBC paid for a show that was averaging 3mil+ viewers, presumably with the assumption that network would bring in even more people. It hasn't and they are 30-40% off where they were 3 years ago when the ink dried. Raw is gonna be average <1.5mil a week with probably the holiday week shows pushing that <1mil line when renewal comes up. NXT is gonna be well below USA's cancellation rate (they seem to cancel every show that goes below about 800k).

Last time the WWE stock tanked, it was because TV deals stayed stagnant. 0% chance they get paid more in 2023 for the shows than they did in 2018

Yep, though there's not really competition...friday on cable is re-runs of movies, etc. But if it ran at 8pm it'd probably be doing pretty strong numbers versus the 10pm

tbh i'm not sure "competition" is the only way for several wrestling promotions to do well, and i've preferred the "rising tide lifts all boats" approach of aew opening the forbidden door, tho ofc i don't know how that translates to attention and ratings

only thing that intrigues me about WWE right now is where this is going

Yeah but what I mean is from what I’ve read, that’s where the network put them, and it’s basically the highest rated thing on that day even with the shitty timeslot. I don’t see how that’s bad for wresting at all.

Its only a small sample size, and not WWE's main shows v AEW...but the Wednesday Night Wars basically showed that wrestling has a cap. There were 1.5-1.6mil viewers every week, and it was just a matter of which show they watched some weeks. After NXT moved, its clear that some people are WWE only fans, but, they are gaining slowly. AEW's ceiling probably is that 1.5mil viewers that were watching both shows.

But outside ratings/TV, the AEW approach is far better for being able to bring in talent and raise the industry.

this will probably sound disingenuous considering my above posts, but that actually is a shame. i loved nxt and really do hope it can do well despite the fact I couldn't give a fuck about main roster wwe.

Because she checks the boxes of all the women that they would hire before. I’m shocked they haven’t split her from him and have her doing anything else
