    Cody Rhodes = Seth Rollins.

One problem I had with Cody's promo last night.
"I can never challenge for the AEW Title again."
About two minutes later, talking about how MJF won't wrestle Cody,
    "I don't deal in absolutes."

They’re clearly not going to abide by the stip lol

Yeah, I assume you're right. I just hate that they'd be setting that precedent so soon. That's such a WWE thing to do to have stipulations that always ultimately mean nothing. I'm sure they'll handle it better than WWE did with the Shane/Undertaker 'lockbox' stipulation from a few years back, but still.

I can see that. Could be my WWE bias but I’d prefer Seth. I don’t think Cody is terrible or anything. He’s fine. Good dude. It’s just weird for me seeing him in that spot I guess

There are plenty of ways to write around that stip. Won it in a battle Royal, have Jericho challenge him, some kind of unsanctioned match. He's definitely winning the title at some point and I'm sure the writing we be equal parts ridiculous and logical.

i actually believe that Cody may uphold the stip. if theres one Dusty-ism i would believe he wants to avoid, its mixing the belt with the book. it was perhaps his dad's largest criticism.

it makes a whole lot of sense to me that the guy whose biggest pursuit in WWE was to restore credibility to the Intercontinental title would be more interested in establishing a mid card prize, and i expect to see Cody forgo the world title to establish whatever the company's midcard belt equivalent winds up being

He’s gonna get the belt at some point. There’s just no way he goes his whole AEW career without it

The ring isn't the midcard title? I haven't actively watched, so I dunno what it is.

They haven't mentioned anything about it. But I do believe (could be incorrect here) that they mentioned the possibility of there being multiple rings, which makes me think they'll go the LU Gift of the Gods route.

It’s wrestling. Stips eventually get broken. When you write a weekly show over x amount of years you end up backtracking on things. Cody’s character work is great and whenever he eventually wins the title I’ll likely pop hard for it cause he’s great and drawing out emotion in the ring, even if his ring work is “just okay” like a lot of people say.

i get the thought process and will prob eat my words but Cody is like THE public face of the company, i think he takes that role super seriously and i wouldnt be surprised if he genuinely doesnt want to bring the "belts on the boys" mentality to the company. if he wins the belt, i think it's at a time he is less involved in the office.

overall im bummed on how fast a lot of people are souring on AEW in general. it's still my favorite product in wrestling and is exciting and fresh to me. i dont need them to explode and conquer the scene, i just hope they do well enough to operate on the level they are right now for a long time.

For me I just want quality matches. If dudes go back on stipulations and go out and put on enthralling matches that get me emotionally invested, I don’t care about storyline stuff at that point. AEW is very good at they, for me, thus far. Especially given it hasn’t been the bucks/omega show like I assumed it would be.

I know he's gonna have the title at some point. I think it'd be really cool if it took a long time though. idk why but the idea of him slaving to build a company and never capturing it's title is alluring to me as a launching off point.

Have people been souring on it? I know the ratings were down a little the last week or two, but I don't think that's a big indication of the big picture for them. Up against an NXT with Raw/SD people one week and the night before Thanksgiving the next week. And that night affected them more than NXT because of the younger audience I would imagine. Either way, I think they're still doing a great job overall. Some episodes stronger than others (to be expected), but overall any complaints I've had are so minor that they don't come anywhere close to the problems with Raw and SD.

That's totally fair. I personally like a good mix of both entertaining storylines and high quality matches, but I'm not going to hold it against a company for focusing a little more on one end over the other. For instance, New Japan has probably been my favorite the past few years and they're much stronger on the in-ring side of things then they are with stories. And my complaint with adhering to the stipulations is not a major sticking point for me. Just a personal preference. I do agree that AEW overall has been quite solid so far. AEW and NXT are the only weekly shows I make sure i keep up with on a regular basis at this point.

im mainly speaking about reddit. i know reddit sucks absolute dogshit, but so do most wrestling fans, and it's kinda the best encapsulation of the demo AEW is gunning for on the internet.

I’m not highly invested in AEW. I do enjoy it. But yeah it’s gonna be absolutely fine. I think the people that are complaining or souring are the types that expect 5* matches from the entire card top to bottom. Just unrealistic. But I wouldn’t say they’ve had a bad show yet by any means. The only thing that is a little strange to me is how the dark order/Brandi thing/bunny butcher and the blade seems to be the same type of storyline. But so what, it’s still fine.
