Edit: Sorry, spoiler tagging. Not a big thing, but didn't realize they were overseas and tonight's show already happened, thought this was footage from a house show or something.

Sasha got slightly updated music incorporating Snoop's rap from her Mania entrance in Dallas

not sure calling that he either wins the match or loses the match is something being telegraphed

I know kayfabe is dead and all, but, yeah...dropping one mid-PPV would be really embarrassing for a promotion (especially one like AEW that likes calling back to NWA/older style gimmicks). Only promotion I can think of that could have pulled it off was ECW; where they'd kayfabe have so little control of a PPV and the locker room that two guys could force an unsanctioned match to happen out of nowhere and a ref would say fuck it and count a pinfall.

An unsanctioned match that happens mid-ppv is called a hardcore match or a street fight or one of the dozen other gimmicks that functionally mean the same thing.

I also think its a mistake. The match not counting doesnt make sense and it going on after the title doesnt make sense. Should just be a street fight that counts for W-L. Its not like Moxley has done things so devious and Omega has snapped and the potential match is so dangerous that AEW cant contain it.

Gargano/Ciampa had to be unsanctioned because Gargano wasnt even in NXT.

Stuff like the unsanctioned match is why W/L mattering is potentially problematic.

hmm not sure if the ranking thing is necessary. AND Cody being at top, feels like a heel thing to do....and is that wise for someone so liked and over right now with Cody?

you guys are gettting a little carried away with this 'unsanctioned match' stuff. It's a hardcore match with a different name. I'm not looking that much into it. I mean guys the WWE has given us the most non-continuous story telling and garbage for 20 years now.... if WWE's problem was putting on 'unsanctioned matches' in the middle of the card, they'd be on top of the world

The W/L stuff is going to become an issue when someone like Joey Janela gets hot but they can’t really push him into the title picture because he has an 8-21 record. It might work if they did a seasons system from like DON to DON, but still, probably a difficult thing the pull off.

I thought the idea was to have seasons so people aren't held down by old records

It's pretty fucked how New Japan is handling Kenny Omega right now. Alvarez made it sound like there's a lot of petty stuff New Japan has pulled since AEW started but it hasn't been reported.

Which is why Id expect a new company to avoid those mistakes. Especially if I just watched my competitor end a HIAC match in a ref stoppage somehow...

Actually, this is already the Full Gear story. Cody got the match because he was 2-0-1 and had the best record, so he has to be #1 in the rankings.

Seeing Mox/Omega at #4/5 seems to naturally make their match for who faces Pac to ultimately face the winner of Cody/Jericho. Its how UFC would trot it out, for example. Instead, it wont have an impact?

Basically this. Think of something like Kofimania. I haven't looked it up but I feel like Kofi's W/L in singles matches was not great. That wouldn't logically happen. I'm sure they'll use a reasoning of, "it's what the crowd wants", but the Bills don't get put in the Super Bowl, ie its contrary to pushing a "real sports feel".

The tweet he made was super ominous. I forget the name, but there was a Joshi wrestler who was working in Mexico and had a rival(not kayfabe) plant weed in her bag or something like that.

i am also a little put off by Omega/Moxley being unsanctioned, but if they really do have a year of rough draft booking laid out like Bucks have said, then i wont know how i feel about it until i see how it moves their stories forward.

Yeah, its a short list because its mostly tags, but going with Singles matches for 2018 and 2019 til the Gauntlet match, he's 1-4-1. He:

    Won: v Miz
Lost: #1 contenders four-way match, MITB, v Eric Young, v Cesaro
    No Contest: v Big Show!?

He actually didnt win a singles match between his Miz victory (11/27/2018) and his WM victory (04/07/2019)...since he got in via the tag gauntlet match and not by actually winning the Chamber or Gauntlet matches.

If they had established the Viking Raiders as faces, or a legit team in any way, I'd agree. But since they're still working jobber squash matches as champs...you cant have a triple threat that is heel/heel/why do I care about them?
