You know, the worst thing about is

He'll think it needs more blondes and Brock lesnars on top of the cards

 

The idea that WWE ratings are indicative of wrestling's popularity as a whole is absolute insanity.

Now, maybe some dumb TV execs might assume that since ratings are everything to them, but the Khans are smart businessmen and Tony is a super fan. I have to imagine they won't have a hard time pleading their case that wrestling is arguably as popular as ever.

Its dramatic. Normally I think people make too big of deal in ratings but weve reached "uh oh" level finally.

Every year its the same. From rumble until may the ratings go back up, a few big decent numbers, and then it slowly curves down the rest of the year

But the big difference this year is that there was NO big ratings bump for mania season. Ratings are down a full point from just last year.

From 15-18 the ratings were mostly stagnant. A little up and down week to week (with a tiny decline every year) but nothing alarming. Aka why I'm sure fox was into them. They proved that tbeh could get consistent numbers.

But 2019 is a big down. And falling fast

Also, RAW and SD are still far and away the most watched shows on USA. They dont even air original shows on most non-WWE days, and it's almost certain that shows like Miz&Mrs. get way higher ratings than they would as just a random USA show.

Thats not gonna be true for them on Fox. Fox doesnt need them, and will probably gladly shift them to FS1 where 1.5mil is a big deal instead of an embarrassment for ratings.

 

AEW is going to have to figure out something about streaming. I don't have cable, I'm not going to go out of my way to find TBS. I watch raw/sd (well, theoretically because I don't watch them anymore) on hulu.

The update on Harper is that Vince McMahon, in writing, told him he wouldn’t release him. He was earmarked to work a program with Zayn after Mania, but the decision was made not to do it. One person close to the situation told us that he needs to get out because they made a call that they weren’t going to use him after Vince saw him in his return. Vince said that he didn’t “get him” and complained that he couldn’t even do a Southern accent (that was from them wanting him to do a Southern accent four years ago). He was regularly pitching ideas when he was out with an injury and they turned down every pitch. He wasn’t booked anywhere after being cleared but Fan Axxess, and then Vince McMahon out of the blue wanted to know why he wasn’t in the Battle Royal, so that’s why he was put in at the last minute. Apparently the end was a mess as Strowman forgot his spots, which is one of the reasons Strowman hasn’t done much since winning. He was booked to start the Zayn program the day after Mania, but was then told after Mania he wasn’t needed for TV. So he went home, but then was called to comeback on Tuesday for a match with EC 3. He was basically used as the opponent to test out the EC 3 and Maverick pairing as wrestler/manager. The agents set up a bunch of manager spots in the match. Vince then watched it and said he hated the manager spots. The creative meeting the day of the draft when it was asked about which brand Harper would be on, Vince said how the guy can’t even do a Southern accent, said the match with EC 3 was bad, so they didn’t put him with either brand and that’s when he asked for his release.

The Harper story is so utterly insane it feels unbelievable, but also this is WWE and this is nothing compared to their history

This is why, even as bad as the writing is week to week, its so easy to blame Vince for everything. Even when they are set to give people stories, they drop them.

So now Sami has returned, is cutting these amazing promos week to week, but heading nowhere with them...

 

Surprised Vince doenst like Harper. Big, unique looking dude, that stands out.
