I don’t know... to compete with WWE overall, I think they do. If the goal is to put out a great product that is praised, then not necessarily. I would just bet that the backers real goal is to be as big as WWE.

 

I don’t think they need to be the size of wwe to compete with wwe. A smartly booked program filling holes wwe currently has (coherent storylines, good tag team division, etc) would draw in the smarks and then look to grow the brand and demographics after that. They have a lot of money behind them but competing with the wwe will take years to build up to. It’s like asking a start up to compete with, like, Microsoft.

 

Ali v Samoa Joe for the US title would actually be perfect. Joe's great as the menacing guy, and Ali is the perfect underdog for him.

Im betting that's the match that becomes the ladder match...i could see Rusev, Nakamura, Rey, Andrade, Ali, and Joe all in one match for the belt.

 

The only name you missed, in my mind, is Sami Zayn. Dude has the range to work in any story, and I just cant see him making any headway in WWE with Finn, D-Bry, Ali, etc all filling the same space. Also, considering how outspoken he is on social issues, and how retrograde WWE is...

There's several guys (Gable, Breeze, Aiden) who would get airtime in AEW or ROH that they wont anymore in WWE, but, not sure their actual careers or lives would be better off.

 

Loved the mike and maria gimmick.... only for them to do nothing with it.

 

Mike Kanellis entered drug rehab a month after that debut. And 2 months after that they announced Maria's pregnancy. Im not sure you could come up with a more direct way to kill a push. Without the drug thing, they could have worked the baby into the gimmick...but with the two combined...

at this point if someone like Ziggler left it would have to be for boredom. I'm sure his gripe with the WWE isn't how much he gets paid. A guy who's been in the mid-card and upper mid-card for almost a decade now, I'm sure is pretty well taken care of. You would think if he left, it would be out of boredom, and wanting to do something else (more 'prestigious")
