i don't think there's a single guy in NXT i've heard more people cry underrated about, i saw some clips of his matches with Black on the Florida house shows and he looked fantastic

 

Murphy rules. He was definitely the star of the tag team, and his house show matches in NXT have always been great. He’s going to breakout in this

Yeah, the house show I caught about a year ago down here in Miami was absolutely stacked (Nak, Asuka, Dillinger, Roode, Nikki Cross, Ruby, Ohno, Andrade, Elias as El Vagabando, AOP) and Buddy Murphy still was a standout

 

NXT is always at it's best when "homegrown" stars are there to balance out the indie darlings. Whenever it was Joe v. Balor or KO v. Balor or Roode v. Nak I was bored to tears. When NXT was at it's peak, you had Tyler Breeze, Tyson Kidd, and Bo around having equal success to whoever was newest and hottest.

 

I miss NXT Breeze. And Tyson

 

I def agree that it's nice to have a balance for the overall quality of the brand, but personally I think the individual matchup quality is based off of chemistry between the given competitors. For instance, Gargano/Almas and Neville/Zayn are two of the best NXT matches ever and all four guys were previously on the indies. But of course, furthering your point, Bayley/Sasha was also one of the best NXT matches and they're both homegrown so like I said, I think it just comes down to the chemistry between the competitors. Not necessarily whether they're indie signings or homegrown.

For me it's having some guys with a new bag of tricks. Gargano is fucking spectacular, but there has not been an ounce of change in how he presents himself from his last two years on the indies to today. Don't fix what ain't broken, but it raises the stock of guys like Dream because there is a lot to be seen from him still. Ohno/Gargano on NXT a while back was phenomenal, for example, but how many times have I seen that match on shows with more freedom? The definition of "homegrown" gets hazier all the time, though. But Velveteen Dream and Lars are two of my favorite dudes because I feel like I haven't seen anything from them yet. It's a shame the non-indie guys are always heels because the indie guys will be cheered to high heavens regardless of their alignment in a program (with the exception of Dream who is getting monstrous reactions despite playing heel)

 

This fatal 5 way match at Fastlane is dumb.
