3/6 without any letters on my first two words. I am more of a god (or just really lucky. I was really panicking after that second guess to be honest)
This one was annoying today. Easily could have failed but i got it in 5. another one of those words with so many possibilities. I had OUND after 2.
they're just fucking with people with these rhyming words. you can get 4/5 letters on the first guess, still go through as many iterations as possible but run out of guess before you can hit all the options. I mean your opening guess could be SOUND, and then BOUND, WOUND, ROUND, POUND and HOUND and they could even offer you a 7th guess and you might go with MOUND and still not get it.
which is why hard mode is dumb. it doesn't make it harder, it just makes it more likely to be impossible if you are forced to use the matching letters, and there are more options than you have chances, it becomes a game of chance rather than skill when I hit 3 or 4 letters on the first try, I typically use a word with 5 completely different letters for my 2nd word to try and narrow it down more - seems like the only way possible to ensure that you can get it in 6 guesses if they use a word like they did today
yes and no I mean yes, it's "harder" but like I said, it makes it so that it becomes a game of luck rather than skill. That's like playing a slot machine on hard mode - It might not hit as often, but skill level has zero determination as to if you win or not
There's always an element of luck and skill though. One way of playing makes it a little more difficult, while the other makes it easier to get it by the end, cause you're playing a game of letter elimination. But you're probably not getting many 2 or 3s playing that way.
I suppose, but as you said, its a game of BOTH skill and luck. I just feel like if you are trying to be strategic about it, your first 2 or 3 words would mostly consist of completely different letters. Then using skill, you could pretty much deduce what the word is with your remaining guesses. When they use a word like they did today, that shares 4 of the same consecutive letters with 6+ other words, it basically eliminates the skill element and becomes a game based 100% on luck (particularly if you are playing in hard mode)
Also I agree, you won't get many in 2 or 3 tries if you play using the letter deduction method, but if your goal is to get it in 2 guesses, you're probably relying 90% on luck
I think the issue is that by "harder" I at least usually think of it requiring more skill. If you're in a situation where you're stuck in a situation where you have 4 letters and need the last one, the most skilled option would be to do a word you know is wrong to get the last letter. It's not even like you're given multiple options or strategies, some of which are better than others. Hard mode forces you into one strategy, which also happens to be the easiest and requires the least thought (just randomly plugging in possible letters knowing that each is bringing you closer to failure). I actually think hard mode is generally the easier mode in general because it stops you from making really careless mistakes, which I have a bad habit of doing when you're in a rush. It only gets clearly "harder" when it forces you into a game of pure luck, which it can do even when you play the game clearly well (like I would say is clearly the case if you get 4 letters early)
