Was this better than doctor strange? I've been having a tough time deciding that one. I'm thinking yes but Dr strange was pretty solid too
I don't think anything in Dr. Strange was as good as the No Man's land sequence. Which doesn't answer your question necessarily. I will need to see WW a couple more times, but I am leaning towards it at the moment.
Yeah they're about on par for me but the No Man's Land section was the best part of either movie. I think I might like WW slightly more just because I find this Wonder Woman so likeable.
Eh, the twist to Strange's final "battle" was better than WW vs Ares. Don't get me wrong, I liked their fight, but it was pretty much a standard superhero origin movie ending fight.
Agreed. WW I think is the better movie, but I dug DS having a climax that's a battle of wits rather than two punching the hell out of each other.
Dr Strange sucked. That whitewashed movie was cookie cutter with bad cg and mediocre acting with a boring plot ... it was not a good movie.
Yeah they made Benedict Cumberbatch super unlikeable. And why the hell was Tilda Swindon playing that role, also they made Mads Mikkelsen have a mediocre performance and that's hard to do. They thought they were pulling Inception level special effects but it looked so cheap. I really dislike that movie
I didn't hate Dr. Strange, but yeah, this is way better. I don't want to get super quantifiable, but to discern how much better I think this is than most Marvel movies I think only really Iron Man, GOTG and Winter Solider are on it's level, or just below it.
I think if this film ended with the German guy being Ares and just dying would have made for a more compelling climax. I felt like the fight was the biggest detractor for the film. Cutting out that 15 minutes might have made this my fave superhero film.
I was hoping there was no Ares, and that was the lesson learned. But then it wouldn't have fit with the beginning of the story. It was just a poor set up.
I would have liked to see his armor/character more, visually. I thought the melting iron turned to helmet was really cool, especially when he made his eye openings. Maybe it was so dark/hard to see for budgeting purposes?
Seeing David Thewlis jumping around in CGI armor was strange. It's affecting my viewing of Fargo this season ha.
I feel like they should not have shown human features in armoed Ares, Maybe just eyes or something. The older british guy was a cool form to have for the "evil planning" mode he was in.
WW actually on fell 43% percent, second lowest drop for a CBM after Spider-Man in 2002. Patty Jenkins commented on the female only screenings “I actually have sort of mixed feelings about all of that only because I do believe in not excluding anyone from anything. And so, on the one hand, I’m so delighted by those screenings and want people to be able to have those screenings. On the other hand I can imagine being offended if I’m excluded from those screenings, particularly because Wonder Woman herself has a very, very passionate fan base, many of whom are me, and many of whom are men who are disenfranchised from their own gender or their own identity. And I would never want to leave them out of anything, you know? … I could switch to either side of the argument, but I certainly think it’s wonderful … there have not been that many female-skewed things and certainly there have been many, many male. So I celebrate that.”
Doctor Strange was nominated for an Academy Award for it's visual effects so you can all just keep drinking that haterade.
Plenty of movies have been nominated for an Academy Award for visual effects that didn't deserve it. Hell plenty of things have been nominated for an Academy Award in general that didn't deserve it. Dr. Strange wanted to be this so badly, but doesn't come close:
I actually really enjoyed the movie, but I definitely agree about Mads. I was really disappointed- obviously his performance as Hannibal shows he can be one scary, creepy villain. The story has its flaws, but it was still one of the most entertaining flicks I've seen in awhile. Weird to me that people would compare Dr Strange before the more recent and successful GOTG2, but then again, both comparisons are weird. Outside of them being superhero films, there aren't many similarities.
Yeah Mads is one of my favorite actors, so it was rough seeing him be just a generic bad guy that could have been played by literally anybody.
It did, for costumes and make up which it was good at it. Doctor Strange was also nominated for something it did well, visual effects. Thanks for backing up my statement :)
