Listening to a couple of podcats this morning and the discourse is pretty much the same when Pep doesn't make any changes. Ultimately I know why it played out the way it did ( to relative success) but it's so frustrating in the moment because of the quality you're leaving un-used.
Not trying to single you out or anything, but this thought process is gonna be a huge issue going forward for Vlatko. I don’t think he realizes that a draw isn’t good enough to this team. They want to win always. I think this could prove to create a locker room issue for him. You have five available subs and you just make one and get content to draw? And now we have to rely on goal differential to win the group. Also, I just genuinely disagree. Alex likes to be in position and get service from the wings. Sophia and Trinity both want the ball at their feet. Especially once we equalized, Lynn Williams should’ve been subbed in. She can serve, make something out of nothing, and play defense. All things that we desperately needed. Also also for everyone in regards to the officiating: welcome to WoSo! You’re never gonna see a well officiated game. At any level. It’s trash and that ref is very lucky no one was seriously injured yesterday. I don’t know how you see it’s gotten to a point where a physical fight is about to break out and don’t try and control the game more moving forward.
I said this last night at home but I imagine some ref's are being instructed to ensure safety is key but so is keeping the stars on the field throughout the tournament. Maybe the yellow card accumulation needs to change moving forward. Something like picking up cards in consecutive halves will result in missing the next game or picking up 3. So like picking up a yellow in the 2nd half of games 1 and 2 would still allow you to play the final group game. IDK. Maybe this is all a stupid post
Gutting to see Kiera Walsh go off. That could be that for England's tournament chances. Such a classy player.
I love how chaotic these results have all been. So, so much fun. It’s so much fun how much of this is coming down to the final game of the groups. Canada v Australia should be wild
Most surprising elimination so far. Their U20 program being highly undeveloped is gonna be a huge problem going forward. Sinc’s done a lot the last couple of years that have soured me quite a bit on her but still wild to think this is her last World Cup
Isn't one of the quotes coming out from this exit "hopefully this is a wake-up call for the federation"?
I mean, yeah. But they don’t even want to pay the players much less actively invest in the squad. Frustratingly, I think the loss makes the hill a lot harder to climb
