I think Julie Foudy even commented on that immediately afterwards. "Isn't one of those freedoms the ability to choose to kneel?"

Watching the game now. Why the hell does Jill push Tobin into the backline again? Having her there does no good. Granted they're more in a 3-4-3 when they're possessing the ball but still, it makes no sense at all.

Took them a little bit to get into the groove of things but I thought they played really well tonight.

Crystal Dunn did an interview with Backline Soccer and they asked her about Pinoe's protest during the anthems.

Whitney Engen was released from the team. I guess Ellis has no courtesy and couldn't just let her finish out her contract and not renew it in January. I feel really bad for her.

Also I'm guessing, we'll get the roster for the October friendlies sometime this week. There will probably be quite a few new names and I wouldn't be surprised if some established veterans are left off for rest, Ellis has already said she was going to do so.

So I was right and they released the roster today. Some vets left off because they called up 11 uncapped players to evaluate. They are Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Julie Johnston, Meghan Klingenberg, and Ali Krieger. Alex and JJ are the only two I'd say that are safe from being cut, which is kind of insane because I don't think there is a better American RB than Krieger right now, but Jill is weird so who knows what she is going to do. And I hate to say it but Pinoe will probably be done once the year is over, contracts are one year only and I'm guessing they won't renew hers.

    http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...mes-24-players-for-usa-matches-vs-switzerland

    Here are the new players:
    • Jane Campbell: A senior at Stanford, she started for the USA in the 2012 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, was a member of the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup Team and previously trained with the senior team for one camp February of 2013 when she was 17-years-old.
    • Danielle Colaprico: The Chicago Red Stars midfielder spent time in WNT camps at the end of 2015 and beginning of 2016.
    • Lynn Williams: The 2016 NWSL Golden Boot winner scored 11 times for the Western New York Flash and two more in her club’s playoff semifinal victory over the Portland Thorns.
    • Kealia Ohai: The Houston Dash forward also scored 11 goals during the regular season. She famously scored the game-winning goal in the 2012 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup Final as the USA defeated Germany, 1-0, to win its third championship for that age level.
    • Shea Groom: The FC Kansas City midfielder, a first-time call up, was far and away her club’s leading scorer this year with eight goals
    • Andi Sullivan: A Stanford junior, she is a veteran of the USA’s 2012 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup and the 2014 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup teams.
    • Ashley Hatch: The BYU striker currently leads the nation in goals with 15.
    • Casey Short and Arin Gilliland: The Chicago Red Stars defenders both helped their club limit opponents to 20 goals this year, tied for second fewest in the league behind the Portland Thorns (19).
    • Merritt Mathias: The first player from Alabama to be called in since World Cup and Olympic veteran Cat Whitehill retired. Mathias played in 19 of the 20 games for the Seattle Reign this year, starting 17.
    • Abby Dahlkemper: The former U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team captain played every minute of every game this season at center back for the Western New York Flash. This is her first senior team call-up.
From what I've seen, Campbell and Colaprico are probably the only two new players that are locks to make the roster for me at this point. We'll have to wait and see how the others do. I'm kind of surprised that Mathias and Groom got called up though.

None of you probably care about this so I don't know why I ever bothered.

Lol I'm the only one posting in this thread but whatever. I'd say this is the writing on the wall for Hope, which sucks. I was hoping she'd at least get a chance.

Penalties in the women's game is so different than the men's. Not a negative critique, and they're both as equally intense, but just something I'm noticing.

    D'Angelo been reading everything.

If there is one thing I take from this game, it's that subs for players who have injuries that take them out the game shouldn't count. I'm like 90% sure Dydasco tore her ACL. Gabarra said he would have used that third sub on Joanna Lohman and she definitely would have made a difference for them. Plus Dydasco's injury happened early enough that the sub wouldn't have made much of a difference in terms of stamina for the Spirit.

Edit: I also I would be really interested to see how this game would have gone had Washington started Stephanie Labbe, who was Canada's starting GK in the Olympics (D'Angelo was their backup). She did really well before she left for NT duty plus she saved the one PK she faced in the regular season whereas as Wys failed to save both of the ones she faced.

This lineup for tonight in something else. Shoving Long further into the back line when she plays better being able to be up higher is exactly what we need to do...:upside: Plus having Tobin, our most creative offensive player, play wing back lol. Sure shell still be able to create from there but putting her in a spot where she'll be called upon to defend more than usual is a waste.

Jill's been pushing been to make the team youthful yet only starts 2 new callups and has 3 others are available for the game. I'm excited to see what Andi Sullivan can do though.

    GODDAMN LYNN WILLIAMS

Fucking scored her first goal less than a minute into her first cap with her first touch of the ball.

This second half has been a gift, I'm so happy. Tobin, Press, PREATH, Sammy, plus Williams' first goal.

England take on France tomorrow night. Will be a real test for us. Expecting us to try and do a similar job to what we did vs Germany at the World Cup, but with this only being a friendly I wouldn't be surprised if we experimented and went more attacking.

The England game was a bit of a dull affair. France had most possession but never really looked like scoring. England were good on the break. Not so good when it came to playing through France.

We had what looked like a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside in stoppage time. Looked like the French defender headed it to our player. Not sure what the lines woman saw. Finished 0-0.

So naturally, Kealia Ohai comes on to make her debut yesterday and scores in 48 seconds just barely beating the record Williams set on Wednesday. I think the future of our attack is going to be just fine. Also, Andi Sullivan is playing ridiculously well and looks so poised out there for only being 21.

The defense on the other hand needs some work. Jill is making too many sacrifices on that end, whether it be the personnel or the formation. Harris did just about everything she could stop that goal but ultimately it wasn't enough because she got no help at all. I think the players we have are good enough but the ones Jill puts out there on the backline are often questionable. And on that note, I'd like to think these past two games has shown her the O'Hara should not be playing OB at all. She is so much better playing up in the midfield where she can really help get the offense going.

Jill Ellis at the beginning of October: wants to use these last friendlies of the year to evaluate NWSL players
Also Ellis: Only calls up one uncapped player for the November friendlies against a team that will provide no challenge, only gives two regular players the month off (Lloyd and Sonnett), brings back a GK that isn't even the starter on her own club team, and brings back the girl who did this

Aww thanks @gonz (Alex). I appreciate it, it just feels weird since I'm basically talking to myself but oh well, it gives me a place to vent about Jill and all her weird decisions.

None of you are going to care about this but Australia's W-League just announced that ESPN 3 is going to broadcast their games in the US which apparently were never really accessible here before now and I'm really hyped about it. I love the Aussie national team so I'm excited to see them play more plus a lot of NWSL players will be over there for the offseason.
