Only had a chance to listen once on the way to work, but instant first thought is Better Weather is better and way catchier. few more spins and I could be totally wrong though
I'd listen to the rest of the record. Particularly "Bruised" "Spinning" "Paquerette" "Icarus" and "Tails"
Better and Icarus are the underrated bops of the album. They remind me of the Distant EP in the best way.
I feel like they're trying to go in a more alternative direction, as opposed to pop-punk with this album. The general slower pace, weirder folk-ish influences (like the Paquerette and the outro to Tails), synths, and softer guitar tones back that up. A lot of the album reminds me of 'Can't Stop, Won't Stop'-era The Maine, just if it was written today.
Man, these guys are good at writing mid-tempo hooks. It’s not often I hear a pop punk band sing in falsetto — normally someone would just belt it but it’s used really tastefully here. That second vocalist is a secret weapon. When he comes in on the third track it’s such a moment, and Icarus coming right after Paquerette is wicked. Really loving this after one listen.
Agree with the above sentiments all-around. This album shows some really impressive growth with this band. A lot of these songs are mid-tempo too, and as a few people have said the hooks remind me a LOT of The Maine. This record gets better with every listen
I'm all in on this band, man. This is an awesome record. Also tagging @FTank because I think he'd love this record
I’ve listened a few times - liked it more than I expected given that I don’t think I liked their last album much, unless I’m remembering a different band. Probably haven’t given this one enough attention given that I typically just put on the State Champs record when I’m going for this kind of sound, but I’ll have to remember to give this more spins.
I am just getting into this band and I really like this record. Tails reminds me of something and I am leaning towards TDS but I might be way off there.
