Premiers in March, stacked cast, looks so fun, let's go (should have kept the "Showtime" name but I get why they changed it):
https://www.indiewire.com/2022/02/winning-time-review-hbo-lakers-1234702577/ paragraph in this review makes it sound like McKay is a menace to society that needs to be stopped before he influences a new generation of filmmakers
It was ok. Hate the grainy camera filter they use in this though. It doesn't make it look retro, it's just ugly.
i liked it. so much stuff has dumb obviously digital filters on it that look like they were produced by youtube influencers. even if it isn't for everyone, I expect them trying something
it sucks what happened with Will and Adam but this is one of the best John C Reilly performances which is really saying something, Jason Clarke and Gaby Hoffman are always great also Adam only directed the pilot, next week Jonah Hill directed!
I know this was all about the Lakers, but i wish they would have mentioned that Jerry Buss bought the NHL's LA Kings in that deal too. It was a $67.6 million deal for the Lakers, Kings, and The Forum. Did they mention it and I just missed it?
Every character breaking the 4th wall in the first 5 minutes was tedious. But once it ditched that it was pretty solid.
On a nitpicky note - I hate that this is called Winning Time because I already associate that with the Pacers/Knicks 30 for 30. Why didn't they just call it Showtime? Is it some legal thing with the Lakers or the streaming service?
showtime is hbo's biggest rival. the actor playing nixon literally thought the show was on showtime bc the working title of the show was just that.
