Damn, I was really looking forward to hearing what a full album would sound like from Ryan. Thought the two EPs were both really good
I mean the band/Ryan lost a tremendous amount of fans/support from that so If his career already wasn’t doing so good, the lawsuit was the nail in the coffin
Please enlighten us then who was the powerhouse behind Yellowcard then if it wasn't the lead singer and one of the main songwriters in the band?
This is disappointing to hear. Ryan also wanted to become a producer at one point, and he only does that so often too. I hope he doesn’t give up on working on stuff. Maybe if he had others he was working with on a project it’s be different. I liked his solo stuff, but maybe it feels like a downgrade to him starting from the bottom.
I think they said he wouldn't be joining them for the tour with Simple Plan. But with the dates being postponed, maybe he will once they reschedule.
I’m not sure how you can come to the conclusion that the lead singer and the person writing the majority of the lyrics wasn’t a big part of the band. The band functions as a cohesive unit and everyone is important, especially the lead singer and songwriter. Perhaps you are targeting who made the band the most unique - which would be Sean. I also am sensing an undertone here that you have something else to say or your opinion is based on another experience or experiences with Ryan?
yellowcard, like many (most?) bands, are the sum of their parts. Ryan (and some people like you apparently) truly thinks he is the main attraction because he is the lead singer and a main songwriter. You know what else he’s the lead singer and songwriter for? His solo project. And yet. My point being that it’s foolish for him or anyone to assume that he is the reason people liked yellowcard It’s not remotely outlandish to say that it’s frequently expressed that having a violin is all that made them stand out, for example I however know that it’s been a combination of the talents of Ryan’s song writing, Sean’s arrangement and playing, Mendez sick guitar writing (and before that, bens catchy guitar riffs), and LPs hardcore drumming all came together to make yellowcard what it was I can’t believe it’s controversial to say that it was the combination of talents that attracted people to yellowcard and not just Ryan
Yeah I just basically responded to much of this so I’ve made no secret of thinking Ryan’s a dick, I’ve made that abundantly clear on this website. Part of what makes him a dick is his belief that he was the most important part to yellowcard. So yeah that contributes to me saying “in which Ryan accepts he’s not the reason people liked yellowcard”
Thanks - I didn’t know that was your opinion. I’m assuming that opinion is based on past experiences over the years?
that’s fine I don’t necessarily expect people to remember my opinions lol but just funny cause it seemed almost like a “gotcha” like “I think you secretly don’t like him” and it’s like...it’s not a secret, I’ll tell you outright I think he’s a dick lmao That opinion is based on... things I’ve seen with my own eyes at shows, things I have heard from other fans from shows, things I have heard from former band members, and online interactions I’ve seen I didn’t exactly come to this conclusion lightly, it took years to get here lol
What's everyone's favorite WRK song? Going back through the EPs now for the first time in awhile. I really like Vultures.
i mean, that could certainly be....I knew about Big If only because I saw him play a small stage at a Warped Tour years ago, and if I didnt post on this website I would surely not know about any solo WRK music, and I consider YC one of my favorite bands, so I'm not not following news about them/their members. I do think though, when it's not a collaborative effort, he just doesn't have what it takes to make good music.
It's a shame I liked these solo songs and he did make it sound like there was more to come at some point. His solo show I saw was really good and it introduced me to Cory Wells and Selfish Things too. Hopefully he puts out more music at some point whether it's under WRK or whatever else
He did a Lead Singer Syndrome podcast like half a year ago and talked about the challenges/grass roots of loading your own gear for shows and such. He sounded like he was excited about producing too, and believe that was the Airflip(?) band he was working with in Japan. I think he just sounded like he had a lot on the go, and then the Stars Wars podcast thing, which of no interest to me. But he also seemed proud of playing music, and did give a hope/plan. Nothing ever seems long term or final with him (Yellowcard being final not based on his control).
Unless winning a settlement would mean he didn’t have to do a tour/make music for a bit, and he’s more interested in doing other stuff.
Making music is a risky business and sometimes it doesn't work out, especially in the case of new projects. Ryan got a whole load of pushes (the Chester Bennington concert, the NFG tour, etc) and people just didn't seem to be into the music he makes in the same way as with Yellowcard. It's happened to bigger artists than him and it'll happen again. If he's focussing on producing I think that's a good way he'll be able to stay in the industry and make a good steady wage.
bitch how you gonna come in here and say basically what I said and not even like my posts in support smh you’re on thin ice murph!!
He didn’t put out a full length and I think that still matters in the world of music. I liked the EP’s, and I give him credit for promoting them and touring them. I do think he is just rolling with the freedom to follow what inspires him and where he thinks he’ll succeed. Ryan seems like a guy who doesn’t mind attention, so balancing an outlet where he’s the star and another where he gets to be technical seems logical. If the attention comes from making music, touring with NFG, making Star Wars podcast that makes sense. But he seems like he enjoyed balancing out with producing, comic writing, and now scoring too I guess. Busy guy and I wish him well. Hopefully when the time I right he’ll make music again, or find ways to keep his musical writing/voice out there.
