I hear Ben Gibbard is an obvious influence in the lyricism, as well as in the hushed vocal delivery. The new album also feels less polished than other bands doing this “big” WoD kinda sound (not that i know many others). I really enjoyed this first listen, but i want to really focus on it when i listen again tomorrow
Played this at 530am on my way to work on Friday. After playing it a few more times over the weekend, I honestly like best as an early morning album.
This album flows so well. The first four songs fade out and into the next so effortlessly. Definitely a Death Cab Vibe for sure and I can hear John Moreland singing over these tracks and it sounding awesome. John Ross who writes everything is such a talent and has an ear for lush/melodic indie slow jams. Maybe a John Ross/Moreland collaborative LP. Don’t even think they know each other so let’s make it happen.
They were so good last night. Absolutely see them live if they come near you. Ended the night with Seance on St. Augustine and it was bliss.
They play a lot louder than I expected. The guitar is a lot heavier live than on record imo. Really hit me how wild the song structure of the title track is when I saw it live.
