This isn't as big a change of sound as I expected having not listened to any of the singles. It's very good though. Sucking on the Birdshot is very damn good. 4 for 4 now. I think I enjoy this on first listen more than my first listen of A Billion Little Lights.
Goddamn I woke up to so many notifications about preorders being available this morning. What a month. I held off from listening to the last couple singles so I’m excited to dive into this.
ya’ll should have seen my face when I put this on, googled when they’d be playing near me and saw they’d be down the street tonight best band, best album
Good god this is so good! I loved ABLL and especially Yolk but this really does feel like the culmination of everything that makes Wild Pink a great fucking band.
if they are coming by you, you need to see them. they sounded absolutely massive last night, added some heavy weight to their songs.
Going to be honest, I love the sound they explore on this album—especially gorgeous toward the end of the record—but I’m not sure yet how I feel about the hushed vocal delivery. The lyrics are pretty difficult to understand. It does add a bit of intimacy though, like you have to lean in a little closer to hear them.
He’s always had a breathy voice but specifically his whisper-singing seems more frequent on this record, or maybe buried in the mix(?) For my listen earlier today, Florida came on for me after the final song. Even with that being a very recent single, I noticed the vocals seemed more pronounced. He’s at least doing something new on Abducted at the Grief Retreat
I do feel like this record is a grower personally, and consistently hushed vocals were a big part of it I’m so goddamn mad I missed this
