Not horrible, they have the top 5 right even if not in perfect order imo. Lot of bones to pick with the bottom half.
ran through the discog, feeling chaotic 1. Ghost is Born 2. YHF 3. Summerteeth 4. Star Wars 5. Sky Blue Sky 6. Being There 7. Wilco 8. Cruel Country 9. AM 10. Ode to Joy 11. Schmilco 12. The Whole Love
A lot there I disagree w haha, but primarily being there out of the top 4 and whole love last feel crazy to me. My second favorite and the best of the post ghost records, respectively imo
whole love is propped up by two incredible tracks, a lot of their worst songs are also on it. schmilco was last for me for a while but it's more consistent. people keep mentioning the being there placement to me, as if 6th for one of my favorite bands ever with a dozen records is a bad thing lol
I’ve got a buddy who RIDES for schmilco. I always found the self titled kind of boring honestly and yeah whole love isn’t it
To each their own, I suppose. I don't think there's much bad on TWL at all (Open Mind and Standing O the only real duds for me) and it's a relative outlier in the second half of their discog for me in that a significant portion of it is legitimately memorable. 2 great songs and a lot of fluff would describe most of their 2010s output for me. YHF Being There Summerteeth A Ghost is Born AM The Whole Love Cruel Country Wilco the Album Star Wars Sky Blue Sky Ode to Joy Schmilco I know I'm in the minority on SBS, but I will never understand its critical reevaluation. There's a handful of excellent moments, but I find it borderline unlistenable outside of 4 songs or so.
It does, and it's probably pretty underrated as a whole. Feel like it got a lot of shit at the time for being the clear "wilco is now in the career band phase of their career" line in the sand, but that feels like a silly thing to knock it for in 2023.
also unlike most "legacy acts" they're oddly more prolific now than they've ever been, hardly resting on their laurels at all
the re-release of a ghost is born is great, loving the alternate takes up on streaming hoping they add the fundamentals tracks eventually ugh
Did a Wilco album ranking with my friend couple days ago Summerteeth Yankee hotel Ghost is born Sky blue sky Being There Ode To Joy The whole love AM Cruel country Schmilco Cousin Wilco the album Star Wars
wow ... i disagree AGIB YHF Sky Blue Sky Star Wars Being There Wilco (the Album) Summerteeth AM Cruel Country The Whole Love Cousins Ode to Joy Schmilco
doing this before looking at either of yours: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Being There Summerteeth A Ghost is Born Whole Love AM Cruel Country Star Wars Wilco Sky Blue Sky Cousin Ode to Joy Shmilco edit: y'all are sleeping on Being There, it's unreal. It could fit on 1 CD and disc 2 isn't quite perfect, but it's an insane collection of songs overall. I'm very here for the upward critical reevaluation of AGIB, but not so much SBS - it's fine, but I'm just very uninterested in that version of their sound. And finally, TWL is one of those late career albums I just like a little better than everyone else. Wilco's van weezer, if u will.
