I mean that’s about as tight of a late night performance as you’ll find. Love when veteran bands come back like, ahem, remember we are still the goats.
Wow. The experimental elements on this album really bring back memories of listening to YHF for the first time. They never left. But they’re back with this record in the best way possible.
“Before Us” really reminds me of “Radio Cure”. I think a lot of this record reminds me of “Radio Cure”
something about An Empty Corner is like hurting my heart real bad. his voice in the chorus, that kind of hushed, raw honesty also: https://www.vulture.com/2019/10/wilco-ode-to-joy-album-review.html
Something about his delivery on songs like "Before Us" (and "Someone to Lose") give me Modest Mouse vibes, I love it
yeah, this rules. easily their best in a decade and top 3 of the year for me, so far. an empty corner and quiet amplifier ruled.
this passage is so true: The dreary and understated Schmilco was the least essential, least compulsively listenable Wilco release to date, an album that took work to love from a band whose albums used to be spellbinding on impact. But like most of Tweedy’s late-career work, it was a grower, and in hindsight it may have been the sound of a legendary artist rebooting before a renaissance.
schmilco felt like the kinda songwriting jeff would perfect on his own with warm/(er). this album feels like taking that songwriting and letting nels, glenn and mikael go wild with it.
