We get it, Sean isn’t a fan.

I love everything about this record. I’m planning on doing a discography run and ranking them all.

 

i agree with sean. schmilco is easily their worst.

I do have a soft spot for Schmilco solely because I saw them one the last night of a four night run at the Chicago Theater a couple months after it came out and it was one of my favorite shows ever

even if it were their worst the songs are still fucking good

 

this one especially

 

gave this another run today, much better than i initially gave it credit. still don't love the bookend tracks, but some really cool stuff in between them

Seeing them for the first time this summer. What kind of setlist should I expect? I'm familiar with Being There through self-titled, and then again with Star Wars through Ode to Joy. Spending some time with the others until the show in July.

Haven’t seen them on this tour but generally they’ll play 5-6 from the newest record, 4-5 from YHF, then 0-2 each from the other older records, AM all the way up through The Whole Love. Don’t think they typically pull out more than one song from more recent records (Star Wars on) that aren’t the newest one, but maybe that’s not true anymore especially with how long Cruel Country is. Sometimes a cover or an Uncle Tupelo song, often a well known b side like Laminated Cat or Magazine.

not to look a gift horse in the mouth, and I do realize this is the perennial discussion, but I don't understand how tracks this good didn't make it onto Cousins

(mainly meaning the non-instrumentals here, particularly Annihilation)

 

cousin does seem to have a bit of a cohesive theme/vibe that annihilation doesn’t fit but i agree it’s a better song than the majority of those lol

I loved Cousins and most of these songs are still better

 

that's an insanely cool setlist
