It’s honestly a bit strange how Austin Butler’a voice change got him acclaim and yeah, criticism (but criticism that WAS mostly in jest and lightly poking fun at his Elvis accent) but Ariana is getting legit criticism over it and having to put out a statement.
Can't say I expected this much praise Wicked First Reactions: Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo Eye Oscars
Early, obviously, but projections are looking very good for this. 'Wicked' Eyes $80M+ Opening, 'Gladiator II' $65M: Box Office Forecast
Mattel fucked up and put Wicked .com on the packaging for all of the Wicked toys instead of WickedMovie .com. Wicked .com is a NSFW site
I think this will do well if those that like musicals and especially the source material turn up for it. I am always on the fence and take them case by case, and this has done nothing to appeal to me from the trailers. I'll admit it looks gorgeous, but something about the acting and interactions just doesn't make it feel it'll work for me. You know this will be broadcast ad nauseum as one of the reasons why it flopped if the film fails to open at expectations. It's clearly an homage to the original poster so a reaction of 'we made an intentional effort to have my face be visible, front and center unlike the Broadway poster' would have been better. It's an over the top reaction. Based on how the comment started though, I'm sure it had less to do with the poster, and more of the other kinds of harassment she alludes at receiving so I understand snapping. Still, it seems like that trick of 'type the angry email out without the recipient' and then come back and see if you really want to send it that first draft way or not.
might gather some thoughts later, but i liked this for the most part, and it definitely exceeded my relatively low expectations. ari the mvp for me since she seemed to be the one to take this just seriously enough
This worked for me more than it didn't. Ariana is absolutely the highlight for me, with the party scene being my favorite. Felt a bit slow at parts, and I think it could have been trimmed by 20 minutes. Michelle Yeoh was underwhelming, unfortunately. I do get why they split it into two parts after seeing it. Overall, I was pretty happy with it!
Should I see this? I’ve never seen any performance of Wicked before, and Ariana Grande is a fav of mine. And, something big and theatrical and shit seems like it’d be fun right now, idk.
As a massive fan of the broadway show I thought this was fantastic. Grande and Erivo are both incredible.
In a year full of disappointments, I’m happy to say this was not one of them. Absolutely obsessed. Will definitely see multiple times before it leaves theaters.
I love how Ariana is basically Glinda irl so the elements of Cheno she includes works so well Also it makes Elphaba very relatable that she cares more about goats and monkeys than humans, she is right to say it
Celebrated my birthday by seeing this for a second time last night. Genuinely love every minute. Such a faithful adaptation, and it feels so lovingly put together by all involved.
