Lolol im not saying that they are the bar to set our expectations on, but you all promoted them and hyped them up and they had more violent lyrics then this. The lyrics in this song are about as harsh as any song by The Offspring
I've never even listened to this band. There's literally one post about them on this site: Searching for "asking alexandria" • chorus.fm It's that they were on some cover album.
If thats the case its 100% brand new news to me. You guys probably will have more posts like this about bands in the future then... this passive agressive 'fuck you for breaking up with me' tone in alt rock and pop punk has been a staple for quite some time
No one is denying that tone, if you'd actually read the thread maybe you could actually contribute something not completely useless.
The difference is that was 1999 and we know better now. We should've known better then. I remember my mom telling me that song was mean and I laughed it off. How awful is that? Have we not progressed as a scene at all? Also, please don't mention Saves the Day and Asking Alexandria in the same post ever again.
It's weird to think that that's the song that got me into them when it's probably their most repulsive lyrically.
Yeah, that one and "As Your Ghost Takes Flight" always felt weird to me ... the lyrics never worked quite right, it felt forced and awkward. (Where throwing lemonade sounded better.) Early Boys Night Out and Senses Fail were really bad too. I can't even listen to those albums without making faces the entire time.
It's the song that got me into them, and it's the song that got me really into music honestly. Like I love Saves The Day, but I have no problem admitting that song is lyrically repulsive. Chris was what, 18, when he wrote that song. It's hard to say for sure but I bet Chris would agree that his way of thinking as that broken hearted 18 year old was unhealthy. I think those of us who are adults and loved that song back then recognize and acknowledge that it's problematic and unhealthy. I'm so tired of these "gotcha!" posts.
A culture in which 1 in 4 women are sexually assaulted and a culture in which 1 in 5 women experience domestic violence? Fuck that culture. I want to tear it down and all of the constituent elements that allow it to persist.
I really love the sound on the very first Boys Night Out EP but there's that one song where they use the r-slur multiple times and I am just not about it
Make Yourself Sick has multiple songs that I can't believe I actually listened to. That era of music was fucked up, I remember Senses Fail bragging in early press about their Let it Enfold You album being "so dark" and what they say in it. Blech. I re-read some of those lyrics a few days ago, and jesus ... Senses Fail Lyrics - Lady In A Blue Dress Senses Fail Lyrics - You're Cute When You Scream
in STDs defense "Ghost" is about one of Chris' friends who was in the throes of a really bad drug addiction and Chris was angry about how resistant his friend was to getting help. at least thats what i heard. but yeah even still early BNO and SF, especially SF, are just oof. like, really really difficult to listen to
