  1. This definitely wound up being a little less upbeat than I thought it’d be, and I’m really thankful I avoided playing BLUE more than once or MEMORY at all before hearing the whole record because of it. Four tracks with no drums at all and two where they’re barely present - it makes for some pretty odd pacing imo. A beautiful record regardless, just need to shift gears a bit after being under the impression this was gonna be a little... dancier or something

That said, I really dig the incorporation of different influences. Maybe it’s just because of the Kelela and SWV covers they did a couple years ago, but I’m hearing some R&B in these vocal melodies. It feels like their “sexiest” record if that makes sense haha

They put out a new live studio session today that sounds wonderful.

Relistening to this today. Wonderful album. I really like the more pop elements they added here compared to the previous albums.

  7. I'm shuffling their discog today, I really like a lot of the songwriting elements on this one but something about the vocal production is too squeaky clean for me compared to the first two records.

I'm usually a fan of cleaner production, so that tracks as far as why I like it. I will say, the pitch shifting vocal effects on the first song are... not my favorite. Odd choice for an opener, but everything after that is perfect for me.
