Man. Tony and (I can never remember the newer guitarists name) are kinda one of the best guitar duos doing it right now. And the twins continue to just be absolutely rock solid as a rhythm section. They sound so good in that video and I'm really really excited to see them Saturday
I've been trying to figure out who Tony's vox remind me of and it finally clicked that it's gaz from supergrass (except american)
Im a huge fan of 70’s and 80’s punk, so I was immediately hooked. I’m a huge fan of their last two albums too.
I think I agree with that! strong chance this tour will be their last round in my budget range / venue size preference, they're overdue the proverbial bigtime
Depending on my mood the first two swap but agreed otherwise I think Fog Machine and Pink Slip are two of their best songs though
Throwing out some love for "Getting Into Trouble w/ the Boss". I feel like that song isn't talked about much. The guitar tone in the outro sort of reminds me of Alex Lifeson from Rush.
Pretty easy one for me: Asking For A Ride You Deserve Love World's Best American Band Does It Again They've gotten better with each release, IMO. Asking For A Ride is already no brainer for me because I'm a sucker for fast in-your-face guitar riffs and catchy melodies. I also love that there is a hint of YDL and WBAB in some new tracks too.
To the point above, if someone asked me to send them a WR album, it would be AFAR. There's enough of the older records in it to be an accurate snapshot, but it's just so immediate and fun that it seems like a good time for anyone I know that enjoys guitar-based rock music.
I like the 2nd half of the new album quite a bit more than the 1st, feel like it's more melodic. PAGES is awesome. I fully recognize it will grow on me, because the last one did. Seeing them next Wednesday
Me too, the 1-2 punch of World's Best and Judy is just too great. Was actually looking at setlists and shocked they don't play World's Best every single night. Looks like they haven't been playing it at all. That's a staple for me.
I don't think I like "Pages" all that much. I suspect it boils down to one's feelings on Green Album era Weezer (mine are largely bad)
Yeah, see, green album is my favorite Weezer album haha. Maladroit follows right after. I guess I can hear some Weezer comparisons with this new album. There is a sense of quirkiness.
I think the musicality/tones on AFAR are ideal. They sound like their live recordings, which rule. But I agree with an earlier comment that some songs just need to breathe more, or a bridge or one last chorus thrown in to take them to the stratosphere. Funny Farm, Trouble W/Boss, even Bozo are all gallop and don’t always totally stick the landing for the potential given. It doesn’t mean those songs don’t kick ass (especially Bozo)! But Pink Slip, Thorn and Crawlspace, hell, the whole back half of songs do this well and that’s why I think it’s the stronger side.
I really like the Green Album (but I’m a total Pinkerton guy despite some lyrics not aging great lol) and think Pages is a last luster closing track haha Crawlspace would have been a better option in my opinion.
