Really interested to see how the rhythm section will sound going forward since that’s a huge part of this band’s sound.
Man, I think they will always be the ultimate “what could have been” band from Covid, besides maybe Spanish Love Songs. They were a rocket ship with Might Be Right, and had two other banger singles ready to go and the world just stopped for the most part.
Yep I think COVID definitely destroyed their momentum, 100%. Saw them three times between 2019 and Feb 2020 and they were unstoppable and so fucking good. At best I think they’ll be a band with a decent cult following but I don’t see them blowing up any bigger. It sucks to say cuz they’re so damn good.
I saw them in 2022 and 2023. Ruled both times, especially in 2023. That Asking For A Ride tour was sick.
Unfortunately, I kind of agree with this. The band probably has one more album left with Elektra and if they don’t deliver on making their best record yet with the most hooks/catchy singles - then I wouldn’t be surprised if they were let go from Elektra. If that happens - I also wouldn’t be surprised if the band called it quits.
It really sucks. They’ve also been support on a lot of big tours. I feel like that used to mean something. Now it’s “If your song isn’t big on TikTok, you ain’t worth a damn.” It sucks but it’s true sometimes.
You’re not wrong and they were even featured on Taco Bell commercials yet still… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I am listening to Asking For A Ride now and it is a solid record for sure with some absolute bangers on it but YDL is still much stronger.
If their next album could be a hybrid of the punk energy of Asking for a Ride and the catchy hooks of YDL, this could be their best album yet. Hope it sells well and does well for them.
Highlights: - 10 track album but they recorded more for a quick follow-up - The band’s new focus is going to be putting out more music than normal and keep the touring more measured
I need me a good mix of pop rock songs and punk songs along with more White Reaper fast food commercials
