When Spiritual Cramp played D.C. on the Militarie Gun/Pool Kids tour they said "we'll be back in June with a band called White Reaper", so something in the cards
The new song reminded me more of their first two ep’s (Mass Hysteria and Police State) than the new album, which I found interesting. Might just be due to not playing it a ton together or maybe it’s a holdover, but thought that was interesting.
I’ve been watching Animal Kingdom and songs from Does It Again are sprinkled throughout and it’s great. Fun album.
One of the best rhythm sections in rock. Those guys were always locked in. Absolute bummer. I wonder how he could be creatively unfulfilled. I remember reading interviews about how he consciously paired back his drumming starting on YDL vs Worlds Greatest. Staying in pocket, simple fills, etc. The songs still wailed but maybe not getting to do the flashy stuff just made him sad?
Given it’s a genuine message, I don’t think it’s that hard to see how he might want more to work with than the brand of rock music White Reaper have sort of committed themselves to. It’s also possible that he’s simply fell out of love with drumming in general or become more interested in a new outlet
Being creatively unsatisfied for several years after your last record came out just last year? Oof but if that’s how he feels then he’s making the right call. Anyways - Shimmy rocks!
the brothers played as the rhythm section for Eddie Vedder (solo) so I'm sure they'll have good opportunities. maybe that sort of thing is more creatively fulfilling for them even though they presumably aren't writing any of that music. i remember their last album was an ordeal where the label had them use a pop producer and the band rejected most/all of those recordings and then instead recorded with one of their friends (maybe at their own expense?). wouldn't be surprised if W̶a̶r̶n̶e̶r̶ Elektra is still "encouraging" them to be a more pop/simplistic style band looks like they were recording as of April, and they have August dates lined up, so we'll probably know more soon-ish
when did they do that? eddie's last solo tour was with andrew watt, duff mckagan and the old chili peppers guitarist
wanna say it was an NBC covid relief show or something big on that scale edit: it was this. didn't realize it's already been 3 years... Foo Fighters perform AC/DC's "Back in Black" with Brian Johnson at VAX Live Concert: Watch
