Found one for $2 at Goodwill minutes before my wife cracked and told me she had already ordered me one along with a little sampler!
Decorated for Christmas yesterday and sipped some Larceny while basking in the Christmas tree glow with a log roasting on the tv.
Anyone know of any good monthly subscription services for whisky? Figured sample size bottles would be the easiest way to try stuff rather than getting a whole bottle
My wife got a me book of whisky cocktails a couple of months ago so I've been exploring some of those. A Rob Roy is a go-to for me atm (scotch/vermouth/bitters). Not attempted making my own old fashioned yet but I've always enjoyed them when I've had them out.
Lagavulin is soooo good; Aarbeg as well. So smokey it's like you're literally drinking the peat bog itself, haha
A few weeks ago my parents spent two weeks in Florida (of all places to vacation right now, they had to choose Florida), so I spent those two weeks at their house housesitting their two dogs. So as a reward for taking care of the dogs (I thought it was just "whatever, sure"), my Mom brought back a bottle of Hibiki - this stuff is sooooo smooth and creamy, with a really nice palette of flavors that sticks around after. I think it does that because it's a blend from several different distilleries and types of casks, so it's really quite nice
"Hibiki Japanese Harmony is made with malt whiskies from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, as well as grain whisky from the Chita distillery. The whiskies are drawn from 5 different types of cask, including American white oak casks, Sherry casks and Mizunara oak casks. Color: Amber. Nose: Rose, lychee, hint of rosemary, mature woodiness, sandalwood. Palate: Honeylike sweetness, candied orange peel, white chocolate. Damn, sounds good. I see it all the time and I'm genuinely curious about Japanese whisky but I'm way too absorbed in the Scottish stuff at the moment lol
I want to try the Wee Beastie by Aardbeg. Only aged 5 years, supposedly tastes like tar, bacon, and chocolate lol. I'm sure I'll hate it
Man, this Hibiki is just soooo good; the flavor finish you get after you take a sip is just the most delicious, creamy/carmely flavor - perfect as a nightcap
