I didn't!!! But my father in law did coincidentally, so I'll at least try his, probably will just buy my own.
My dad did get me this Costco pack, which looks like a bunch of random unknown distilleries, but still will be fun
cracked opened the elijah craig barrel proof and four roses single barrel tonight. fuckin' delicious both of them.
they're finally releasing the canned cocktail jack and cokes, but now i can't fucking find them or the jack and cola cans anywhere
Bottles in rotation right now. I have a Weller Antique 107 coming in on Friday I won from a raffle Suntory Hibiki Heaven Hill Bib 7yr Rittenhouse Rye (best old fashioned whiskey btw) Castle & Key Wheated Bourbon (probably gonna be a drain pour, this shit is terrible) Old Elk Wheated Bourbon (one of my current faves) Davies County Whiskey Buffalo Trace Old Forrester 1920 (daily sipper, fantastic stuff if you can find it) Elijah Craig Single Barrel Private Barrel 10yr Decanter of Leopold Brothers 2yr American Whiskey Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Four Roses Single Barrel Redbreast 12yr Aberfeldy 12yr Eagle Rare Willet Rye 4yr Booker's Pinkie's Batch Lagavulin Nick Offerman Charred Oak 11yr
Beautiful lineup. Now I'm sad I gave away all my bourbon before I moved. Love me a good wheated bourbon. I'm a scotch guy so I see and hear you, Aberfeldy. Such a solid dram.
Ever since I stopped working at a liquor store a couple years ago, my whiskey shelf has gotten significantly less exciting, but Rare Breed always hits the spot.
"Released as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2021, this 26 Year Old Lagavulin Cask Strength is aged in rich first fill Pedro Ximinez and Oloroso sherry casks. Nose: On the mellow nose a finely woven wine-woody aroma of great complexity takes time to yield its individual secrets. Light, fresh and vinous top notes mingle with the linseed oil of an artist’s studio then fade into a warm suggestion of sun-bleached polished mahogany, backed by dry edible seaweed, with sweeter hints of baked fig and butterscotch. Further in, the aromas grow more pungent, oily and fragrantly smoky; like going fishing, with background aromas of tarry rope and boat engine. If a little water is added, their intensity is reduced, while a note of clean linen survives best. Palate: In the light, ultra-smooth and oily texture a sweetness briefly gleams, soon tinged with salt and pepper, the whole growing more savoury and smokier all the time. Here is all the precious sweet-smoky style of Lagavulin, in a glowing, well-rounded form. A drop of water, not needed, yet seems to heighten the harmony of flavours. Finish: Long, sweetly warning and faintly smoky, as with smouldering beech leaves, leaving an aftertaste of chanterelle mushrooms. A drop of water introduces a little pepper, then the smokiness reasserts itself in the drying aftertaste." Another site (I like faint hint of ash, lol): Nose Bonfire smoke and a faint hint of ash. A rubbery note as well. And plenty of dried fruits such as raisins and figs. Red apples. But then also quite some blueberries. Bbq smoked ham. Honey. Dark chocolate and cinnamon. Taste A touch of bonfire smoke again. Ash is in the background. That smoked ham again. Dried fruits, raisins mostly. Blueberries. Rich honey and toffee. A hint of dark chocolate and cinnamon. A hint of cloves too. A faint hint of black pepper and oak. Finish Long. Blueberries and peat, but also a smouldering bonfire.
whisky reviews are so silly. I used to have a joke instagram page where I did silly reviews of scotch lol
I had money set aside because I wanted to try the newest Woodford Master’s Collection, but I couldn’t find it so I eventually said fuck it and picked up a bottle of Found North Batch 006 17yr, which I saw people on Reddit raving about, and it’s one of the best whiskies I’ve tasted. Special, special bottle.
