Invicta is such a cool record and no one has ever tried to make a pop punk record like it since. If Hit the Lights got back together I would love to see them follow that line. Summer Bones was great but not nearly as ambitious.
I literally knew the second day was planned, and hinted very clearly at it, when they announced the first one.
I deleted my other comments since ya guys don't believe me, that's fine, I'll just leave this one up and come back when appropriate :)
I've unfortunately never seen Paramore. The only chance I had was at Warped in 08 and I missed it. So I'd choose Paramore over MCR.
I have tickets to see MCR in October already so if it comes down to it I guess I’ll see Paramore but I REALLY hope they don’t clash
The only thing that would suck if they clash is all my friends I’m going with are stoked to see MCR but I’m more excited to see Paramore haha. So I’ll probably be on my own for that one. Which isn’t really that much of a bummer for me.
I can't imagine Paramore & MCR clashing because they're the two biggest acts, but then Paramore would probably play a shorter set than MCR if they played on the same stage.
On Satellite Radio, Im hearing a lot of Phoebe Bridgers, Girls in Red (sp) and other bands with similar sounds (Mistki another one) - female based bands?
I am all for festivals in general being more inclusive and diverse, but I also think it's okay to have a festival with a purpose. This is a throwback to the pop punk and emo we all listened to it, so complaining it's not diverse enough (from the make up of the bands to the genres) is a silly criticism to level at it. Especially considering the festival organizers have an identical style 2 day/same lineup fest for hip hop & R&B.
Nice to see the streaming numbers for a lot of these bands already jump up since the lineup announcement. Seeing a lot of all time highs for monthly listeners for a lot of them.
Yeah I know that I for one listened to Silverstein's first few records for probably the first time in the streaming era this week, as just one example. Same for AFI actually
I think the biggest challenge would be diversifying while keeping the demand and fervor up. As it stands, this festival definitely has a pretty "mainstream" angle/tilt to it that gets by on an economy of scale and a unified perspective. People can attend this thing and feel like it's Warped Tour 2012 all over again. If you start dipping into other areas, that feeling starts to go away and it would probably become less appealing to a lot of people. But then, it might start to appeal to others... It's just a matter of what people are willing to do. Like if you were to throw on Jawbox, Jawbreaker, Mineral, American Football, and Quicksand on here. That'd look cool in theory. But would your average fan of those bands be intrigued enough to pull the trigger and go to this? Maybe. But my initial thought is "no." And specifically because of the Warped Tour vibe it kinda puts off. There's exceptions to every rule but I'd imagine most would just prefer to wait for a headlining tour and/or an appearance at a festival that feels more targeted. There's ways to do it, for sure. But it's a difficult balance. I just think it's going to be a tricky one for them if this goes on for more than a few years... And if they pull it off successfully for a few years and pull the plug? I think that'd be cool too! Not everything needs to be forever (see also: Taste of Chaos 2010 being Disturbed, Papa Roach, and Buckcherry).
