While it will of course be controversial, I wouldn't doubt it if they did (that is, assuming they agree - I know they've allegedly turned it down multiple times). If WWWY has repeat headliners again, I think interest will definitely go down (I'm still going, but I would be a bit bummed if its another repeat). Very curious to see if any of the headliner guesses previously made in this thread will come to fruition.
Slim chance, but I wonder if the reason for the delayed lineup release is because No Doubt is headlining and they needed to wait for all Sphere dates to sell out first due to a radius clause?
I also can't picture Brand New on this. Not because WWWY have any morals or standards, though. First, I feel like the band tries so hard to distance themselves from this scene, and would much rather play something like Best Friends Forever. Second, I feel like the band's ego would only accept headlining slots, and the weak sales of their reunion tour last year showed they really don't have that kind of draw. If Weezer, Avril and Offspring still are subs, so are they.
That could be the case but maybe given that they likely need money these days they might be able to still accept an offer of a non-headliner.
I think people were shamed to not go, but after the tour and getting a fest, they may feel its 'ok' to go now. I dont want them there, but who knows. I also would not go for no doubt and have no idea how they fit into that scene. I guess its what you grow up with but no doubt did nothing for me then and even less now. A shake up i could see is it being a little smaller and maybe even 2 days.
I don't know if the online shaming really impacted ticket sales. I have co-workers who went to both the LI and NJ shows. I think the lack of general demand for them to play arenas COUPLED with the amount of people who have grown out of them and/or are put off by the allegations (latter probably had more of an impact) was why these shows were a bit softer. I imagine the band is probably more hesitant to play festivals because you are potentially getting more hecklers/people who actively DON'T want to see you which could lead to a hostile situation but who knows.
I totally agree that BN has been trying to separate themselves from this scene since Devil and God came out and I doubt you'd ever see them at any punk/emo/nostalgia adjacent fest post 2006 But I also feel like their tour will be and has been promoted as a success with several "sold out" shows and there would be a dumptruck of money at their door if they chose to play one of these fests...with that all said, I think it's moot for WWWY
Despite the scene’s rep, I do feel like there is a decent amount of bands that this fest would want that would drop if BN was on it.
Even if it's purely performative, I do think this would be the case. But I'd also be prepared to be very letdown at the same time.
The rumor was that they did offer BN a lot of money for WWWY a couple of years back but they weren’t interested.
there was a rumor for WWWY …Bamboozle was confirmed to have made an offer by the scummy guy who runs it…i forget his name
i feel like warped tour killed it. they made more money on name alone booking lesser bands and are expanding this year. theres also a chance the venue could be becoming unviable due to it being built on a sinkhole.
They played Riot Fest before everything came out, they'll play WWWY or something else scene-adjacent.
I mean I don't think so...but then again I never thought they'd play any shows ever again so I guess my opinion is meaningless lol
Damn I'll admit, I never even considered No Doubt, but that's a damn good guess. They're a funny one though. I feel like they were this massive entity for ten years and then Gwen Stefani's solo career and subsequent celeb status completely wiped No Doubt from general consciousness. So when they came back to do Coachella, I was sorta scratching my head and definitely felt that way when the Sphere dates were announced. But nostalgia knows no bounds, so I think they'd probably kill at WWWY!
I think No Doubt could still be a contender, especially if the festival kinda leaned into a few other ska/ska adjacent bands on the lineup that haven't already been there. Aquabats, Less Than Jake, Streetlight, Bosstones, etc. But basically I just want a god damn Hippos reunion!
