Everyone going this weekend have fun! I'm now getting FOMO even though I was totally cool not going all year. Oh well. Maybe next year will hook me again. I forgot to cancel my hotel and ALMOST had to pay the whole thing but remembered in the nick of time and just got charged a deposit... dodged $650.
Out of the 10 bands I'd care to see, I've seen all of them multiple times except 2 (Avril and Straylight Run) so I deffff won't have too much FOMO for not going this year. Hopefully next year is more exciting than the last couple have been. Bands that would make me perk up: Grade Home Grown The Anniversary Somos Dryjacket Millencolin Sugarcult Eve 6 Latterman Just Surrender The Morning Of Pentimento JamisonParker Head Automatica 1997 Letter Kills Emanuel Hazen Street Box Car Racer The Fully Down Osker Dead Poetic Jinxed The Matches Gob Blood Brothers Park Funeral for a Friend Sherwood Damone Recover Before Braille Anatomy of a Ghost Jawbreaker
Panic were incredible. Brendon’s still got it and Spencer coming back to perform Sins was so so cool.
Super fun day! Weezer was the biggest disappointment. Totally phoned in their set and shouldn’t have been direct to the two headliners.
Bummed that blink played so may deep cuts, my friend was so bummed too being her first time seeing them.
I was SHOCKED at how good Panic was holy shit. I swear the last time I heard Urie do Fever songs other than Sins it sounded horrible, so major props for them sounding incredible.
Blink’s set is the same one they did the entire past month of shows. And yes i agree, Offspring should have been direct support. They crushed it
Saw the Summer Set. Was pleasantly surprised by how big their crowd was. They did a fun cover of Mama Mia, which I’ve never seen from them or heard released. Headed over to see RJA on the Ghost stage which was seemingly having audio issues as it does nearly every year. They had a massive crowd but nearly nobody gave a crap until they played their two big hits. Also I’m very out of the loop but they have a screamer in their band now? Seems like they’ve had them for a while. Also, they surprisingly made 0 political comments unless I missed them being a few minutes late. Caught the first three Rocket Summer songs. Bryce sounded great. They’ve never been my cup of tea besides a few songs. Didn’t have the biggest crowd but whatever. Saw the last few Mayday Parade songs. They’re Mayday. They could do those songs in their sleep and did great. Boys Like Girls did fantastic as always. They’ve really been working their asses off since coming back and blazed though a dozen songs. Said they’re coming back for a 20 year tour next year. Never seen so may guitar picks thrown out before TSSF was fine. We watched them from afar. You’ll get Parker standing there and you’ll like it or not Yellowcard was next and was a fun time. An entire family showed up next to us of a mom and dad, 3 teenagers, and a 10 year old who were camping out for Avril so felt obliged to help them from the mayhem of this crowd and KL Saw Simple Plan next which… man. I like Simple Plan, especially the early stuff, but it’s their third WWWY and it’s the exact same stuff every time. My wife and I were over it Knocked Loose killed it to no surprise. This is about when we started seeing people that’d been camping out all day for Panic start to leave. Just mayhem Headed over to SYG who… unfortunately just never sound great live. It was fantastic to see them play after so long but they are not a festival band. Chiodos was next and killed it. They drew a big crowd and credit where credit was due. I don’t THINK they played to a backing track. If they did it wasn’t nearly as obvious as last year Headed over to TBS who had a massive crowd and sounded better than expected though it’s so clear that Adam’s voice is shot Went to Jack’s Mannequin who were very delayed by loathe going 10-15min over their set time. Chiodos ended on time on the same stage and the only band in between was Ice Nine Kills so idk who to blame but either Loathe or INK set off a chain reaction of delays. Jack’s went on 15min late and killed it. Sounded fantastic and Andrew is a charmer. They seemed to maybe cut a song to help make up time as it seemed like a shorter set letlive. was supposed to start at 8:35 and didn’t go on until about 8:45 but they also definitely overstayed as they played until about 9:30. They killed it as always. Jason was bleeding, climbed the stage, etc. Top three of the day for me were Jack’s, Letlive., and either BLG or KL We’re about to head back for day 2 Adding in that having 7/11 sponsor was a plus so I could go get free slurpees on a whim. Typical fest crowd with here and there issues. Had a guy next to us during BLG that was being an absolute dirtbag to his girlfriend? grabbing her tits, grabbing her ass, kissing her when she told him multiple times to stop. Then he started flipping her off from behind, poking her, leaning in and whispering just hateful stuff to her. That went on for about 20min straight. Unfortunately he ran a few deep and nobody around seemed to care, so I tipped off security and four of them rushed in and pulled him out of the crowd and were going to kick him out but the girlfriend unfortunately told them to let him go and after 5min and a stern warning they let him come back in. There was a skirmish during SYG and some folks passing out near the man stages. All typical festival stuff
Blink 182 finally change up their setlist a little bit and some are bummed I guess they can't please everyone also they played songs known to blink 182 fans it wasn't like they were playing deep cuts from cheshire cat it was pretty popular songs
Blink setlist was fine. Glad I finally got to hear Wishing Well, Josie and Online Songs live. I'm a big fan so I can see that casuals wouldn't care for those songs
Blink’s setlist made me happy. I was stoked for M+M’s, Josie, and Online Songs. The Movielife killed it and were an excellent way to start the day. I was on the barrier for Straylight Run, which was such a fun experience because I hadn’t gotten to see them live before. The Starting Line are aging like fine wine - I loved how their new songs sounded live, and overall they’re just as tight live as they’ve ever been. Alexisonfire was stellar, and I wish they could have played a longer set. All in all, it was a fun festival experience. Glad I went again this year.
Dude was never going to play. He seems to have lost the plot a bit when you look on his Twitter. I know people on AP back in the day used to rip into him for some ridiculous quotes like "cot wit pot", but if there is more to his decline mental health wise then I hope he gets the help he needs.
Straylight Run was so good, John sounded great considering he just had his throat cut open 2 months ago.
