Another clear mess up by Craig showing how much of what people heard was a track and how little his mic was piped in https://youtube.com/shorts/WVUEFli-ErY?si=S8Vmjzf9E-wHgUYp
For those that did the survey: what bands did you put in your list of who you’d want on future line-ups? Mine: -blink-182 -Alexisonfire -Paramore -Yellowcard -Echosmith -The Story So Far -Hellogoodbye -Glassjaw -The Fall of Troy -I Set My Friends on Fire EDIT: I SHOULD’VE FUCKIN INCLUDED MAN OVERBOARD!
What survey? Mine would be Blink 182, Thrice, Mcr (if system of a down can play back to back snw i'm putting them down) The dillinger escape plan ( only if they can get Greg and Ben to both do it) Etid ( I wish) i'm surprised Alexisonfire hasn't done it.
A bunch of us attendees received an e-mail asking for feedback about the festival and other things related to it. Check the e-mail address you used to buy your ticket (if you attended).
So, funny enough, this has already been done. Back in 2012, Art Alexakis from Everclear and Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray started The Summerland Tour with Everclear, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms, Lit and Marcy Playground, playing like 6,000-cap amphitheaters. I went that first year and it ruled. It continued in various iterations with a revolving door of bands like Filter, Local H, Sponge, Soul Asylum, Spacehog, Fuel, Toadies, etc., for almost a decace, getting smaller each year until it ended in 1,000-cap clubs. The year after the first Summerland, McGrath and Alexakis split and McGrath started his own version, called Under The Sun, and it also had all the heavy hitters from the era - Eve 6, Better Than Ezra, Tonic, Smash Mouth, Blues Traveler, Uncle Kracker, etc. It too fizzled. It is funny how these 90s bands sporadically pop up on bigger festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Stagecoach and the like, but that lane of 90s pop-rock just hasn't been able to harness their appeal into something like When We Were Young. Interestingly, McGrath has said recently - I believe on No Jumper - that he thought they were way too early with Summerland and Under The Sun, and has also wondered why no one has been able to get this right with that scene.
last sentence says it all to me. Was that a ‘scene’ or was it popular on radio only? Was there a groundswell of support with these artists in their early years? I think that’s part of why WWWY works - ethos of a underground scene
I still wish I know the specifics of what their deal was. Considering every other band was able to make it work, and most played albums (I consider moving hits to the end and skipping interludes as counting), I'd love to know if they had a real grievance or just threw a tantrum.
It was tough sledding with who they went up against (LA Dispute and senses fail right after and dashboard / pierce the veil during) but Glassjaw played 2022 and had the smallest crowd that I have personally seen at the fest in all 3 years. Great show, I was hyped to see them, but the crowd was tiny tiny.
A friend of mine mentioned that they went live on IG during the weekend and mentioned that originally they were told to prepare a show for a night slot, and they did prepared a big production for it, and then suddenly they changed their scheduled time for the afternoon. Something along those lines
Had I been there, I probably would’ve opted for La Dispute myself. Sucks they had such a small crowd.
Thats just the bands that played the 5 most prime spots and is also probably just people reinforcing their biases from who they were expecting to be great going into the fest.
Yeah I am fairly certain without having watched them that sleeping with sirens was not a top 5 set lol
Won’t do an album play through for people that are gonna know at least 1/3 of the songs but are ok doing another show where people might know 1-2
