How early in advance were set times posted in the past? I can't remember, but I imagine it's coming up soon.
Maybe the short set is actually the side show (it is a coheadline with support) Venue might have a clubnight on afterwards so could be an early curfew plus most of the venues shows are 18/21+ but this one is all ages so that would also contribute to a possible early finish. The album is only 11 songs so it'd be odd if they did a 9 song set, might as well give them an extra 6 minutes in that case? Feels it makes sense for them to do the shorter greatest hits set at the side show then the 14 song set is the album plus 3 "hits"
Thanks to @theasteriskera for sending me over to this thread - first timer going on Saturday and cannot wait to share this show with all of y'all!
For those that have gone before, how packed does GA for the side stages get? How long does it take to get from one side stage to the other side stage (since you have to walk around the vip area)? I have vip sat and ga sun, regret not getting vip for both. I don’t know if the best move is to use vip for main stages or side stages (impossible to fully assess without schedule).
I have the exact same question, for now my plan is doing VIP for the main stages and GA for the side stages
I went GA first year and it didn’t take long to get to any stage from any other. Only time we had trouble was when AAR was on a side stage and it was packed. They clearly should have been main stage
There's a lot of room to freely walk/ sprint for the side stages from what i've experienced. I think the middle right of the main stages is where it takes the most time to move around in. Also if planning to buy merch, do it the day before the fest Pop up merch hours: 10 am- 8pm 10/18
The only side stage band last year I recall not being able to get relatively close for was Hot Mulligan.
From VIP mainstage being in the crowd to any VIP sidestage, it took me roughly 5-7 minutes depending on how fast you bust your ass
It depends how close to the stage you need to be. As the day gets later the crowds are much more dense and you’ll need to make some decisions on whether to just stay to get closer or stage hop and be further away.
Sorry if this has already been discussed but who will be singing for Anberlin at the fest? Will make my decision easier if it is Matty.
Yeah, my year 1 experience was side stages were awesome, occasional traffic moving around during like lunch rush, but mostly able to get relatively close with ease for most bands. Main stages were brutal to navigate, so ended up being comically far away even when we tried to make our way up.
I noticed Memphis is on tour with Asking Alexandria but will not play the dates during WWWY, bummer as this confirms Matty
Nice catch, I will almost certainly be skipping that set now. Unrelated, it's so weird to see St. spelled out in St. Louis
I went last year and GA for the side stages was pretty wide open since the main stages drew a huge crowd. I believe it was a total of four stages last year, two side and two main with the two side stages split down the middle with VIP in the center and GA on the sides of them, facing away from each other sort of. It's not a far walk, maybe 5 minutes or so unless you're right up against the stages. The side stages last year didn't really get crowded until the sun went down, but they weren't bad at all. Main stages are a whole different animal, I couldn't get anywhere near them (I was GA only). VIP for main is going to be the move, you shouldn't really need it for the side stages but it's going to be a huge help for the main stages just to avoid the sea of people that'll be in the way. This is the map for last year, I'd be shocked if it wasn't similar (maybe they add another stage somewhere in there with bands presumably playing longer sets than last year for album plays). https://www.reddit.com/r/WhenWeWereYoungFest/comments/179eywg/2023_map/
I will bet they will have a 5th stage because the sets will be longer overall, here is the map of 2022 when they had five stages
That makes a lot of sense, that fifth stage is a good spot for some of those smaller bands that would otherwise seem a little out of place on the bigger stages. There were a few smaller acts (Games We Play, AJJ, Jean Dawson) that played to pretty small crowds and moving them to a different stage should make it less sparse. I could see them having bands like Mom Jeans, Daisy Grenade or Against The Current getting a spot there instead of slotting them in early on the side stages and creating some conflicts later in the day.
