Despite all the repeats this year, it's crazy how many more acts they have to choose from for a 2025 edition.
I'm actually super happy with the 2024 lineup. This is mostly NOT my side of the scene. They loaded it with a ton of bands I really don't like. Why is that good for me? Because now 2025 will be any band that hasn't been tapped yet and more my side. Aka Sugarcult , matches, allister, mest, midtown. Reel big fish, Weezer,
Where the hell is Reel Big Fish anyways??? And forget Brokencyde, they should bring back the Icy Hot Stuntaz
Brokencyde only worked because of MySpace and that very niche scene within the scene. I sincerely doubt any of those dudes would want to play those roles again
I was just thinking this week how The Get Up Kids doing Something To Write Home About would’ve been a great add and realized they didn’t play 2022 or 2023. Feels so weird that they were grabbed
i have been surprised the Matches haven't turned up on any of the first two WWWY's (or three, now) -- as they do seem to pop up every 3-4 years with gigs here and there. Then again, Shawn is currently an accomplished, bestselling children's book illustrator out on a tour of auditoriums and book stores and it looks pretty awesome. so he's kinda busy as it is ...
I'm surprised that they haven't snagged TGUK yet. But even more shocked that they didn't try to get Chris Carrabba to pull double duty and do Further Seems Forever - The Moon Is Down. As far as smaller acts, still surprised they've gone three years without The Early November, Mae, Midtown, Rufio, Hot Rod Circuit and Hellogoodbye.
I'm 50-50 on the Get Up Kids. Not that they wouldn't be a good fit... But I could see the offer having come in this year and Pryor giving it a quick "no." Same with Against Me!, honestly. (I put "honestly" in there because it felt weird ending the sentence with an exclamation mark that I didn't really mean. LOL) Aaron and Scott did Chris Demakes' podcast a few months back and the word "hiatus" was used a few times. So not sure they're broken up so much as... Just not doing much of anything for the foreseeable future? They were very tight-lipped as to reasons why, though. I'm a little surprised they didn't sneak onto the 2024 line-up too. Though I was also admittedly a little surprised at how, uh, underwhelming their reunion wound up being. I guess I just expected it to be a bigger deal than it wound up being. Cobra Starship seems like a bigger deal.
I didn’t watch it, I only read a comment from someone on Reddit that did, but Roger from LTJ said on a livestream a while back that apparently Aaron got really fed up with their heavy touring schedule and wanted a break. I know Aaron and his wife moved to Florida during the pandemic too. I did come across his wife’s Instagram recently and it looks like they’ve moved back to OC. Idk if this signifies that the band might be back in action soon or what, but something to note…
