I didn’t go this year, but last year I did the fest all day 10:30AM until 11PM, zoomed over to mandalay bay and went to an after show that started at 12:30 and ended at like 2:30AM, and boy was it the most miserable I think I have ever been in my entire life. and it was barely 60 degrees outside and I felt like that. I can’t imagine factoring the heat into all of it.
I didn't go to emo night after, but I did stay up till 5 concert day. I'm feeling it now. Back on the east coast, and massively discombobulated. I got there Thursday night around 7pm Vegas time and left 1130pm Vegas time Mon and the average day was 10am - 3am. I am beat up today (more mentally than physically). After the concert for me, it was diner food, black jack and video poker. My ears and feet were done so yea... standing at another loud show doesn't sound fun but then again, a lot of people would say I'm crazy not going right to bed and drinking and gambling for hours. But eh, I've said it in here before, I'm a sucker for the Vegas excess and a weekend a year is just about right. I'd happily do it again next year. I don't want to jinx it, but 2 years in a row, the gambling has gone okay. I broke even which is fantastic considering I would have been 'fine' (relative term) to spend all I took. I'm not interested in Sick New World. Wrong time of year, and wrong vibe for my current music / people taste. But yea, bring on the 2024 lineup. I am sure it has to be a mix of repeats and new.
They made a comment towards the end of the set about "not letting any ONE person get in the way of your dreams" etc. Felt pretty obvious. I chuckled.
Finally inputted a few shows into "concert archives" (I'm sooooo happy I started doing this in like 2017, no way my old mind would've remembered all the shows) I'm happy to announce WWWY23 was officially my 150th concert of all time. I like that. Other fun facts that no one cares about; Motion city soundtrack = 6th time seeing them in a festival format. By far the record. These guys are always there! And I always see them. Only 3 times I've seen them in a normal show format. Nfg = 14th time seeing them. They are in sole possession of 2nd place (flogging Molly is #1 at 17) Finch = 7th time seeing them. Astonishing for a band thats barely existed. Mxpx = 5th time seeing them....and its always in a festival format. Never seen them in a normal venue.
There's a 50% chance that my partner is going to want to go this year just for the Nada Surf album play. If that's the case, I'd happily tag along for My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat World, New Found Glory, Motion City Soundtrack, Story of the Year, and Thursday but... By and large the whole vibe continues to be so unappealing to me. Lots of bands I like, not many I love - and I've seen the majority of the albums I'd want to see played here already. This is a truly wild line-up though that'll no doubt sell out with that second day coming in hot.
Lots of interesting stuff, I think being all album sets is mostly a turnoff for me but a good concept to keep it fresh
Like 75% of that have been tours/albums I’ve seen played already. Cool concept though. Glad FOB stuck to their guns and refuse to do album plays
Pretty unique concept. I think it's the least exciting lineup they've had, but I definitely would have a blast if I went. Immediate highlights: Coheed - Good Apollo JEW - Bleed American Dashboard - Dusk & Summer Starting Line - SILYMI Nada Surf - Let Go And of course Fall Out Boy not committing to an album play haha
Idk how I feel. Black Parade and All's Well That Ends Well are the only two that would get me to maybe consider committing to this but I'm not sure if that's quite enough. There's others that are exciting but this particular fest just gets sooo pricy. And for a lot of bands the album plays would make their sets a little less fun for me.
Thought TBS would be a lock for something like this. Big hitters for me are Chiodos, TDWP and The Forecast.
Didn't MCR play The Black Parade in full on the 2007 tour? Appreciate not everyone was around then or has a time machine but goddamnit do Three Cheers!
