The Ghost

LOVE the intro to this song. That guitar sounds badass, and his singing in this one is probably my favorite he has done between the last album and the intro track. This style of music REALLY works for them. More aggressive, again, and I am digging the more aggressive mewithoutYou. Lyrically, this one again paints a story as he sings; these guys are great with 'story telling lyrics'. Not in the conventional sense, but in a sense that songs like this tell a disjointed and twisted morality story in a sense. 2/2 this is a good song!

 

While listening to mewithYou just imagine the singer getting his food from dumpsters and hitchhiking across the country. Cause he does that.

 

Nice And Blue
Daaaaaang this one shreds at the start, and when the vocals kick in its brutal. This is a heavy song for them, and like @bachna84 this is much more aggressive for them. This song would be a fucking blast live. I love the ambient crooning in the background of the verses behind his vocal work, layered with the shredding guitars. The focal point seems to be the lead vocals in these songs, which I am OK with. His voice works for this style of music, it fits like a glove. And then at the last minute mark, it gets all quiet and soft to where you think that's it, and BOOM. You aren't done yet. "I WAS ONCE ALIVE WHEN YOU HELD ME!". Hell. Yes.

Everything Was Beautiful And Nothing Hurt

This song is sort of haunting and twisted, yet kind of beautiful. Soft and ambient, but then the lead vocalist speaks the title and shit just gets really weird. A cool change of pace from the previously songs.

Gentlemen



This is a heavier track for them. The intro is damn intense. But when the vocals came in, about this bitter relationship gone wrong; you can’t help but be struck with the music. “You’re lying, but I don’t mind tonight!!!” “I can’t remember the color of your eyes, just the shape of your dress!!”

The character in this song is demented and twisted, opposite of the song title. And it works. This is one of my favorites of the album so far

 

Be Still Child

This one was fed into by Gentleman, I hadn’t even realized a new song started. They’re great with transitions on this album. This song however was good, but after following up gentlemen it didn’t click as good as that song. Like the solo of the outro though

 

We Know Who Our Enemies Are

This song is INTENSE. Nice! Again, as I stated before they are keeping the aggressive nature and sound through this album from start to finish. Is it unpopular to prefer this to their later, softer sound? If anything, WKWOEA kinda shows them in their element with this intense track where the entire band just lets go of any restrictions it seems. A+

 

I’m of the opinion that there is no such thing as bad mewithoutYou!

 

I Never Said I Was Brave

"You might sleep but you'll never dream!"
Love it. This song is actually a bit different than the others. While the others are intensely aggressive, this one is a bit more middle of the road. Its intense in spots, but it has its softer moments as well and this makes the song really stand out. This might be my favorite song on the album now, I think. For not anyway. Its got this nice balance; and while I have been loving the aggressive nature of the rest of the album this was a nice little semi breather in the midst of all the chaos. Its musically and lyrically sound.

Haunting interlude, and I like it. Also better than spiders.

 

I’ll say something I’ve said many times already - that early to mid 2000s Tooth & Nail/Solid State lineup was incredible

Silencer
This has a very soft and kind of creepy intro to it before rolling into the drums and lyrics with the guitar being in the background for the start. This actually sounds closer to their later work for the first minute anyway. This one plays the verses as a bit softer, but the choruses are where they erupt...or as far as a chorus is for MWY. The song seems to rotate between the two sounds they have now and would eventually have. A very good song, and very easily one of the top tier on the album. Lyrics, as usually are great and paint an emotional picture. You could probably spend a lot of time dissecting this band's lyrics.

 

This is my favorite song and the album and one of my favorite mwY songs overall :)

 

The Cure For Pain

Ok...15 Minutes?! WTF.....

That was my first though when the track started. Anyway, this song starts out cool. Its another middle of the road song sound wise to start, and its lyrics about falling out of love are put in a very blunt and haunting manner; its something easily relatable. And then we get that sweet, sweet insanity bliss of a breakdown for the entire band. Drums and Guitars go INSANE for a good couple of minutes, and its some of the best time on the album. And then....silence. Literal silence for 7+ minutes. Not a sound. Finally with 4 minutes left, this cool little soft acoustic number starts, which is super weird for these guys as far as I know. It actually sounds kinda cool and is a nice way to end the album. I like it!

 

Tomorrow I’ll probably listen to another album that @JediMasterKevo182 assigned me so he can get to @littlejohn ’s favorite mwY album sooner than later!

 

CONCLUSION


Good album! It actually seems to be more of a one big work of art rather than a collection of songs, and the songs are of course poetic as always. I enjoyed this more than I did my last venture into the MWY catalogue, and it sets a good start to my listening to this band.
