Gatsby's American Dream Ribbons and Sugar

The Taming
Cool intro. It started off very interesting. Not much to say though I would like to have seen it become a full song perhaps. That opening riff was cool

 

This is the correct review of that song.

 

We're Not Orphans

The first real song. Musically its pretty straightforward and has some great guitars going to it. Vocally I was 50/50. At the beginning of the song I could swear this dude had a cold or something, but that seemed to go away as the song progressed. Around the 1:15 mark is when it really started to pick up. Again, guitars are great on this. I could see this song growing on me with a repeat listen

 

Epilogue

Niiiiice intro guitar. I like this shred. And the vocals are on point with this one. I like this one's lyrics too, the lyrics were much more hard hitting than the previous song. Those drums in the last minute of the song thump, really good. And the I like the riff they have going on. This song is structured very well, musically and lyrically. Nice one. I like this

 

Work Lies Sex Love Fear Hate Friendship

What a song title. This song is short and sweet like the ones before it, but this one stuck with me a bit more kind of like the last one did. Its a fun song, its over before it starts but that's a good thing. It keeps it great before overstaying its welcome

A Manifesto Of Tangible Wealth

I fucking love the sound of this song. That 'thump thump thump' beat going on is awesome, the intro is downright cool as shit, and its this dark and twisted sounding song before it explodes and unravels in the last 30 seconds of the song. Vocals sound great, the guitars are really damn good on this one too. So far, this is my favorite track on the album.

 

Snicker At The Swine
I feel like I heard this song before at warped tour or something somewhere. Its got a cool bass line to it, and it actually stands out pretty well. At the midway point these nice little effects start echoing in the background on top of the song, before shit just goes fucking nuts in the last minute. Another dang good song, this was a nice 1-2 punch with Manifesto. Sounds like something Id be singing along with in my car if I knew the lyrics better.

 

Apparition

Niiiiiiiice. I like this. This sounds more like it! I love the little guitar solo at the 50 second mark, and the lyrics are passionate and sweet, yet well grounded in a flawed man reflecting on a relationship. I like how it kind of dials it back for a bit and goes quiet a bit for 30 or so seconds before letting shit go crazy again. The lyrics fit with the music in this one, and the I think this song stands out a bit more. Make this a 1-2-3 punch now with this one being my new favorite

 

Cut The Strings

'Lets forget who we are, lets forget who we used to be'. I like that lyric. This album is starting to take off. Musically this song is on point, and vocally its right up there with the last few. The lyrics are dang good, and I like the outro line and how its sung "This is frustraattiioooon"

 

The Horse You Rode In On
I want more songs like this. This was so much different than the rest of the album. Obligatory slow song? Maybe. But it was pulled off nicely.

 

Recondition, Reprogram, Reactive
This one didn't sit with me too well. It was alright, I liked some of the lyrics. But it didn't stand out.

 

Counterfeit Language

The longest song on this entire album I think, and the final song. Not a bad song at all. In fact its pretty dang good, has the album go out with a bang. This almost feels like a different band than the rest of the album. The musical outro that goes on for about a minute is really cool, and makes this song stand out a bit from the others on the album. Not my favorite on the album, but a good song and a good way to end the album.

 

That tour with The Starting Line, Copeland, Cartel, and Gatsbys American Dream was incredible

 

Nice sounds like you really liked it a lot.

Conclusion

This was pretty good, I will say. Different than what I expected, its short and sweet like this type of album should be. They have some very nice musical talent on this record. The vocals go by at break neck speed, and were hard to grasp in places on my first listen. I could see myself liking the album more with some repeat listens. It definitely has appeal, and I can see why I have heard of these guys before. They were fun, aggressive rock but not jarring.

 

@JediMasterKevo182 did @littlejohn tell you the album is (loosely) based on George Orwell’s Animal Farm?

 

I did like it quite a bit! I would put a 7 on it for now, but once I listen to it a bit more, I can see that growing.

 

It was amazing.

Also Rudy is an amazing drummer and completely underrated.

Also a pretty cool/nice guy who answered my emails and got us into the show for free as well as hooking us up with the drummer from matchbook romance to get us tickets in Dallas the day after.
