I think third wave emo is what’s going on now with like modern baseball and stuff. 1st wave started with Fugazi and Rites of Spring and went through the 90s. Second wave was the nonsense commonly referred to as emo but is really mall emo (such as MCR). Now we are on the third wave, which is bands trying to sound like the first wave.

This is honestly more accurate so yes your right. I usually include the 90s stuff as part of the first wave cause it really became a “thing” when Sunny Day broke out. And had been way more “underground” for lack of a better word when Rite’s were doing it.
