I went to Subway last night for dinner, and sent @Dog with a Blog pictures of my experience there from the moment I walked in the door until I exited. He really likes Subway, so I'm not sure why it offended him as much as it did. I thought I was doing a nice thing

 

And wouldn't let his kid play with Dan from the Black Keys' kid

 

I mean, the concept is fine. Sometimes with a contract there are multiple dates (the date the document was drafted, the date(s) each person signed, etc.) so in certain circumstances you might need to specify which date the contract becomes (or became) effective.

It's really just the phrasing. No one would ever actually say out loud "first above written". "First written above", maybe, but even that's unlikely.

It was even more annoying here because the space where the date is first written in the contract was in a field called "Effective Date", so they just had to refer back to that.
