If we want to get really specific I would classify SOTY as Pop Punk, Post-Hardcore, Emo-Pop, Alternative Rock haha

 

From what I listened to I wouldn't put them anywhere near the term "metal".

 

Genre tags are pretty pointless in general but it helps to get a general guideline.

 

anyone in here from the philadelphia area and want to play guitar in an original band for a 5th of a share of like maybe 100 bucks a gig haha

It's possible. That 2nd video though sounds straight up like a Metallica song though which makes me think Metal. Either way, I love their mix of heavy and pop or whatever the term is these days.

 

I call white dude on guitar number 2.

 

Not really a fan of any these.

First two were okay (I can hear some metal in the riffs of the first one, but it's more the way metal was filtered through Southern rock and ultimately reduced to generic hard rock) but they just sound like a lesser version Illusion/Artist-era Thrice with some Rise Against and Four Year Strong thrown in.

And that third song is just bad. His scream (in all 3) is terrible. This is one of the SOTY albums I've heard and I wanted to turn it off after this song.

 

Have you ever listened to Metallica?

 

As a hardcore Story fan, my heart is broken. I understand though *sniff sniff*

 

YEAHHH! Love em to death. Maybe I should have been more specific, the Intro of Is This My Fate sounds just like a Metallica song. Def metal though.

 

I love those bands and esp the Artist era Thrice so maybe I'm just a huge sucker for all this haha

 

I definitely get more Illusion era Thrice out of that intro. They had some metal influence too, but filtered through the California punk sound.

 

Also, not trying to begrudge you or anyone else liking or loving them, just not really for me.

Plus I’m biased. Thrice is my all-time favorite band so anyone who approaches their sound is going to get extra scrutiny from me.

 

Me toooo! I listed them as my favorite band earlier in the thread.

Rise Against would be on that list too if we did more than 3 haha.

 

Nice. I honestly don't know if I can designate other favorites outside of Thrice, haha. There's another band that used to be on that list, but I don't know if I will ever listen to them again.

 

I used to be a pretty big Rise Against fan but after TSATW & Appeal To Reason they fell off pretty hard for me. Only like a few songs from each of their last albums and never really go back to them. Guess they are just not for me anymore.

A band I've enjoyed but never listened to enough of their stuff but really should is Strike Anywhere.
