You could probably get them in free.

looks like it's sold out anyway.

I may feed my kids taco bell and mcdonalds fries,

I may let my kids eat froot loops

I will not take my kids to a club to watch a band at 9pm on a wednesday.

All my friends are starting to have kids, all my friends are also losing their social lives.
I need to make some new friends.

I just think that’s unrealistic, considering how many are already in circulation. But restrictive laws are very possible

Probably, at least in the short term, but I still think that should be the goal.

this is where I would start.

    recall all fully automatic weapons
Stop selling and manufacture of semi autos
No more private sales without background checks
Every sale needs a background check and like at least 7-10 day waiting period
Recall and stop sale/manufacture of bump stocks
Strong buy back programs of all guns
Mandatory training for all gun sales
gun registry maintained by federal government

And no one is saying we need to repeal the second amendment, it just needs a few modifications:

I think that would be a good start. I don't know how a recall would work/be enforced though

I think these would all be great to start. The training and education for gun safety should be ongoing to maintain a license, not just a one-time thing. I also think concealed and open carry laws should at least be modified so that if you're carrying a weapon and injure or kill someone with it, there is a rebuttable presumption that you intended to cause that harm.

And to be clear, I'm certainly not saying "I don't know how you could enforce it, might as well just do nothing" I think it's more than obvious that something has to be done and you have to start somewhere.

it would have to be through a buyback program. they wouldnt all be turned in voluntarily though. I'm not sure how many fully auto weapons are in circulation anymore, but they are at least somewhat regulated, and they are not for sale anymore except from private owners.

even if we ignore this provision for now since the other things I think are more pressing.

I think there should be gun owners liability as well. if you own a gun, you should have to maintain insurance on that in case it is used. monthly gun insurance.

and reapply for your license/training every 4 or 5 years. similar to drivers license

Yeah, this is the worst argument and makes me angry. "Well, we can't prevent all gun deaths, so why do anything?" We can't prevent all deaths related to car accidents either, but we still have rules of the road; require education, testing, and licensing; have seat belt laws for drivers and passengers; and require safety inspections for cars before they can be sold.

I think a lot of people when they think of gun control have a mental picture of someone knocking on their door and physically taking their guns away

there are a lot of dumb people

It wouldn’t, imo. It worked in Australia, but they only had to buy back like 700,000 guns. We have nearly 300 million in circulation. Americans love their guns too much for something like that to work here.

What about the "it won't matter if guns are illegal, because criminals don't follow the law" argument? That's a terrible one too.

For the record, I’m not saying do nothing, I’m also trying to think realistically here and I’m not sure a buyback program could be all that effective in America, though I have no issues with it being tried out if someone could figure out the details

there aren't that many fully auto weapons, they stopped manufacturing them in the 90s and it's only private sellers now, so recalling those would probably similar to australias effort.

like I said, that provision is a reach. the buyback program would be voluntary.

Yeah, and if you implement background checks and a federal registry you can start to track these things more as they're sold by private sellers.

We should do what Japan does, make said person that wants a gun jump through every hoop there is and see if they pass every test there is with flying colors. If they don't, they can't own a gun.
